Who you talking about, Dayne? All the concerts I've been to lately are pretty thorough at the doors.

Mr. Abbott was shot and murdered onstage while performing?.. I knew he had died but did not realize he was murdered, and this was quite a few years ago.. if they had metal detectors at the door this could have no doubt been prevented.. I was reading Ted's replies on the evedelvecchio thread, and did not realize Ted was associated with Pantera back in the day..and with very little to do today, but battle with myself mentally about decisions that need to be made, I said I will study Pantera a little today, just for something to do, and although I knew Dimebag was dead, it was a shock to me knowing he was murdered on a soundstage in Ohio? scary stuff!

Yep, Dayne, that was a very long time ago--before it was fashionable to check for weapons. Happened at the AlRosa Villa on Sinclair Rd. in the north end of Columbus--ironically enough, a mostly metal venue (so much for metal detectors, not that anyone back then had 'em). I never played there--never did the metal scene--but had lived nearby (Cooke Rd.). I remember reading the details somewhere, but that was long ago.

for some reason, I though he died of a drug overdose.. I don't know, that dark metal music seems to attract negative forces more so than the positive energies.. God and the Devil .. however you want it..

Here's a song by X (the band) about dying on stage. At least, that's what they said when they introduced it on the Unclogged album.
Jook, pay attention. Real Americana content.

I knew that would get you riled up. Yes that song was grunge. Their old stuff with their original guitarist was rockabilly + punk. Check out their side project, The Knitters.

Dec 8 (same date Lennon was shot) in 2004. Shot in the head 5 times before his body hit the floor.
He and Vinny (brother/drummer) had left Pantera to start their own band, Damage Plan. This "fan" was upset about the break up and semi-public fights between them and the other half of the band.
While they didn't have metal detectors in the bar, they did have an off-duty cop in the audience who was packing and shot the assailant before he did any more damage.

I talked to a bouncer at the Starwood in Hollywood, circa mid 1970. They checked for weapons. He said they had a barrel full of knives and cheesy pistols that they confiscated from folks who wanted admission.
In a similar role at Rock City Amusements I required customers to check their hunting knives at the ticket booth while on premises. (weird LA law thing happening at the time)
You can however, never really hope to stop an assassin(s) willing to die.

Yep, now I remember--the whacko
was shot by an off-duty cop. Some clubs in Cols. used to hire off-duty cops for security, esp. venues like the AlRosa that featured what I call "angry music." Most places have bouncers (given the failure of certain humans to moderate alcohol intake), but I've never played a gig where additional security was deemed necessary. It's an effective deterrent to breaking out some jazz here in Tampa.

What was Pacino's line in one of the Godfather flicks? 'If history has taught us anything, it's that anyone can be killed.' Ain't it the truth...
