i used to play in a group called PENTAZZ and we did commercial hits of the times (early '80's) and then turn around and play some pretty out there jazz and fusion originals. the bass player was leaving...i'd been invited to play w them and i was sold on playing w them w first song i heard them play...."My Favorite Things". switching back and forth between the song's usual 3/4 and 4/4 time. of course when i got into the band i insisted we also include a 5/4 section!!!
that was tough sell but i wore them down and before too long the bass and drums would begin it that way. musicians present were always really knocked out by it, but i doubt many of the Joe Public audience ever caught much of what was going down.
