while discussing my buddy Bill and some basses he's loooooong been in the process of building w dayne....the subject of neck thru/bolt on came up.

i thought i'd put it out there to see what people prefer. i know that this board is largely made up of gtr player who also play bass. and one goofball who plays bass from his gtr! :D

talbot, i know that like me, you consider yourself first and foremost A BASSPLAYER. but the rest of you guys? pffffft.

so maybe this isn't the best group to discuss preferences when it comes to basses! but let's toss it out there anyhoo.

so, anyone gots any thoughts, opinions, superstitions, etc on what system you prefer that you care to share? and i see no reason to limit it to just bass, since we ARE a bunch of gtr playing fools as well.....what neck joint do you prefer?

I like any guitar with a truss rod, so I can straighten the neck, don't care if bolt on or neck thru, w/ Mike whatever sounds good and plays well.. I do prefer the slick maple fretboards with the glassy lacquer finishes LOL :)

I have both types of guitars. One is a Schecter C1 Classic the one with the Mother of pearl vine of life inlays all the way up the neck. I like this guitar more than the PRS McCarty. It has a neck thru and I have noticed it has more sustain than my bolt on Strats. Like Mike said I just want good tone!

jeff, i have big respect for those C1 gtrs.....they are seriously well put together, play really good, they're more than just a one trick pony,,, and all that at an affordable price.

plus...they're lookers too. esp the model you have, jeff with the vine inlay. i know some think that kind of inlay is over the top...but the rest of the gtr is well..."classic looking" so i think that inlay works! at least it does for screwball aesthetics!

A hard neck with a full body is always good

Speaking of neck thru, I love my Firebird guitar - best sounding six string I've ever owned, or even played. But I ran a T-bird bass for about a year and while yeah, it looked great, it was a big pain in the ass to play. Unbalanced, too heavy and so on.

I honestly couldn't tell if it sounded better or worse than my Fenders although it certainly did sound good through an SVT or a B-15.

I'm very happy with my bolt on P-Bass and like Slacker I love that broad, smooth maple neck.
