Pet Peeve: No pics. No Videos. No Music. No bio. Why bother?

Why do the majority of Bandmix members even bother creating a Login without posting a single pic of themselves, or better yet how about a damn video or even a audio clip?
And how about you take a damn minute to check your emails or Bandmix Messages. I have reached out to over 30 musicians in the Kansas City area, of those 30 about 5 have replied. Some I have texted and emailed directly. Supposedly these 30 KC musicians are all currently seeking bands to play with. Well for PHUCK SAKE, how are you going to get a position in a band if can't even respond to messages?

1 - amateurs vs professionals
2 - don't know how to post that stuff
3 - posers who don't back up their big claims
4 - basic rudeness/ lack of manners that pervades our society
Don't let the bastards get you down.

For some reason Bandmix does not even allow me to post links on my profile or to upload songs. Neither does it allow me to edit my posts. It was not that way with the older Bandmix format. So it is not that I would not if I could. With Fred Flintstones computer and a line modem that operates at a blazing 4Kbps I am presented with a few roadblocks. But I do occasionally post links to my SoundClick page in threads. I can hear and upload songs there, but only there it seems.
Sorry but I don't think you folks are worth $50 a month and a new computer. (Just being facetious) I'm even a cell phone holdout. Who wants to talk to people who aren't musicians?
Pretty much all of you will be able to relate to that in time.

I simply play for the enjoyment of creating of music for my own amusement, and it is quite amusing to me at times. It also helps me from falling captive to my arthritis so I just keep on playing and writing material. Old musicians never die, they just smell that way.

I am moving to Sioux City

..why you ask? there must be something in the water there that produce top drawer guitarists like Slacker, and Tommy Bolin..please, don't tell me you have not heard of Tommy Bolin.. played on Billy Cobham's Spectrum album and with Deep Purple.. so to keep it on topic.,. do yourself a favor and recruit Slacker..he does not need a bio, his guitar work speaks for themselves..

OP has a valid complaint. At first I didn't post any clips--mostly because I hadn't produced any--but since I have, I've come to realize it doesn't matter; I still interface w/ no one 'cept the folks in the forum. Fill in the blank for a reason. If they don't have contact info listed (I do), I assume they don't want to be contacted (and comply). I've never posted any vids 'cause I don't have any (maybe I can get someone to make a vid of my next piano-bar gig, but they don't rock), and I doubt anyone cares much what I look like (hint: I'm old and have lots more hair than Jook). My bio is short cause a) I don't care to talk 'bout what I can do (I'd rather just do it--hence the clips), and b) my interest is the sound, and I can replicate what I've posted (is it really that difficult to set up a session to verify it?). But like I said, that doesn't seem to matter.
I disagree w/ the "business first" claim; if you don't have the chops and can't lay it down, I don't give a shat about your business acumen. For me, it's the music first...then we'll figure out how to make a buck. A marketing plan without a good product is worthless. If money is your primary concern, maybe music isn't the best career path.

While we're discussing pet peeves: folks who post bios in the third person. You got a publicist? Have your people contact my people and we'll do lunch...

Well, Jook, we all know you're the resident expert on...everything (I'm shocked to hear you actually took advice from someone else--what happened?), and you're always ready to set us straight on any topic. Thanks. I'm sure the Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd and any other successful band you can name all sat down, created a business plan and set about marketing their (as yet nonexistent) product before they ever learned to play a song. Of course they did. Most artists will only create art that conforms to a business plan...right? Where I come from, we call them "hacks" or "posers." Some call them "sell-outs."
And for the record, if your "ponytail" is well over a foot long (i.e., not a "stubby"), you might have me there. But judging from your pic, I see you've got some MPB going on--you definitely got me beat there. I don't have any of that.

Yes, absolutely. Not you particularly, but a professional band wants to look professional. four guys in their twenties probably don't care if the lead player is 40 if he's great and can look the part. But they probably don't want fat balding old guys that can only play Skynard.
and its frustrating to go through auditioning a dozen guitar players when you could've judged them before hand much more quickly
If money is your primary concern, maybe music isn't the best career path.
If money is of no concern then you're a hobbyist and a professional player needs someone more dependable. There's a million good reasons to put something in your resume' if you're at BandMix, even if you aren't looking for a band.

BM admin are a bit in the dark about updating thew software that would allow for better profiles - because frankly there are tons of better options, and all free, too. But its all about selling 'clicks' and streaming ad revenue for the least amount of work.
To the OP - you can see on each profile the last time someone checked into it - if its 'over 1 month' don't try to contact them. And you're entirely right about no photos/videos/music, "don't bother". I wasted too much time with people who professed 'professionalism' yet had nothing I could pre-audition.
There are ways to 'hide' your contact info in your profile easy enough, just look at mine for a way to do that.
Is BM a waste of time/money? It's all in what you make of it. I've been in two bands that found me through this place.
To Badstrat - if you are still living iat backwards dial-up internet speed, don't expect miracles - chances are your browser is outdated, which is why you can't edit posts. etc.

@ Slacker, try a wi-fi hotspot option.. decent high speed internet, now that I am using Ad Block software a 5GB data ($50.00) card is now lasting me as of today 26 days, and it's not used up yet, and I've watched a few you-tube videos as well.. it;s those commercials that eat up the bandwidth..

@Slacker, the only hardware investment was the $49.98 wi-fi hotspot box and since my puter was not set up for wi-fi-.. I had to buy a $29.97 wi-fi wireless adapter that plugs into a USB port.. and then you can do so many more things ,, I am surprised your internet security suite even works correctly on dial-up.. that problem is what forced me to switch, and I am now glad I did.. shut down the land line, shut down the dial-up ISP, and that money converted over to using/buying a data card
