Ted- that's a gross overstatement. Roger Mayer invented the pedal (Fuzz Face). Page may have come up w/ the idea but he didn't invent the pedal. Mayer jumped on the Hendrix bandwagon when Hendrix came to London (1966) and invented the Octavia pedal and later the Uni-Vibe for Hendrix.

The Fuzz Face wasn't the first distortion pedal made. I believe Maestro (maker of the Echoplex) came out w/ the first one.



Any invention starts with the idea. In this way, Davinci created the idea that the Wright brothers perfected. But they need Davinci's drawings to know where to start.

So I'm glad that Mayer perfected the idea, but it's another example of how much JP changed the world that most people don't know about.

and "distortion" had been around before that....no, maybe not w a pedal...but on a lot of those radio soundchecks you can Charlie Christian pushing his amp into light distortion.
