it all made much sense, interesting how the tempo generally needs to be sped up in the rewrite-space.. how the words and notes generally are too much in the creation space and the need to cull out notes and words in the re-write space... the concept of the heart and head working together while creating..

I agree with everything except the tempo part.

That's why I actively participate in an online songwriting forum, and facilitate a monthly songwriter circle - getting input on the song's structure, melody and lyrics at the early stage of writing it (before its too ingrained into your mind) has proved invaluable to me.

or as i tend to approach my songs (and those of my bandmates when they'll allow it and are on board).... each new song presents many different opportunities.....

i've always felt that a good composition can wear many different robes. sometimes it's obvious..."this works best w a reggae groove"....or "this feels right in 6/8"...etc.

but for me, i love screwing around w things and trying different grooves on for a tune. a possible side benefit is that i believe it also builds playing and writing chops.
