Yeah, I play that way more than not. And right now, definitely. A couple of weeks ago when I was playing my acoustic at an open mic, I dropped my pick early in a song, kept on playing with mostly my forefinger doing the strumming. Later that night my finger started throbbing, I looked to see a huge blood blister on it! I'm sure it's all dried now, but hasn't quite worn through (and then the skin underneath will pink and tender, of course.

My calluses aren't what they once were! Blood blister is half gone today.

No, I'll always prefer pick playing on guitar - I'm a hard strummer and couldn't do the flourishes any other way. Same thing with leads. And on bass - any fast playing (like on some of the Beatles tunes I'm practicing now), I couldn't play without a pick.

i'm mostly a fingerstyle player on gtr and i play w a pick maybe 30-40% of the time. i like the skin on string contact and I JUST feel more connected and attached to the instrument. mando....it's got to be a pick. gypsy jazz...GOTTA use a pick. and a very FAT one at that!

but on dobro and lap steel, instruments that are almost always played w fingerpicks....my fingers remain in the buff. i've never liked the tone or losing that "connection" when using fngrpks.

on bass...it's standard two finger pizz, thumb pop, thumb w palm mute and once in a very blue moon i might pull out a pick on that 60's '70's Bakersfield country rock stuff.

in the end....for everyone, it's what gets it done and gives you the sound you hear in your head.
