Hey guys. I am a songwriter who has built up an inventory of over 250 original tracks over the last 40 years, and I would like to talk to bands in order to have them take my music and record/perform it. Not super worried about the financial aspect (I am not looking to sign a contract with anyone, I'm willing to pay to help them gain publicity, etc.) but I was wondering if anyone had tried this before or had any advice on how to approach the bands in my area that I have picked out. Thanks!

Have you recorded demos of them? You sound like you already have bands in mind? just go talk to them! You've got nothing to lose.
If bands ARE doing original songs already, then they probably write their own and would not be interested in others' songs. They might steal yours, though. j/k
If they aren't doing originals, its most likely because they are doing gigs that require cover songs.
