Thanks for the reminder. I wrote "Encore" off the top of my head six years ago and started doing my encore but never got around to recording the song. Time I guess, to get off my ass.
Here is a verse:

I used to drink that whiskey but I’d wake up flat faced in the morning.
I chatted up the sparkling dames and ended up with my hat in my hand.
I used to chase the big time - peeked inside, so I don’t chase it no more.
I’ve done what I used to do so - what can I do for an encore?!

mah gawd, if i NEVER again hear some well meaning (usually) member of the audience yell out "FREEBIRD!" on a jazz or bluegrass gig cos' they think it's a hoot...that'll be all too soon! yeah...cos' THAT never gets old.

The Sons Of Britches base their whole Branson show on requests.. seeing that fiddle player doing curtsies after their performance on Branson Country tv show cracked me up.. could you imagine the difficulty playing a show without really rehearsing the tune up?.. somebody in the audience requests a tune and you had better know how to wing it or you are in deep trouble.. they did Devil Went Down To Georgia rathere splendidly but it was different..

I know you don't know them but the group 'Sex Mob' from NYC were playing a gig somewhere in Manhatten. Now these guys are a crazy jazz band that do a LOT of crazy covers, especially tunes from James Bond movies and things of that nature. Four piece instrumental band. I heard this, back when I could actually listen to National People's Radio. It was the narrator's request for Freebird. It was kinda "his thing" to do this at shows. When the band bested him at his own game, he split, like brave Sir Robin.

"Run away!"

Our theme song is probably "Vehicle" Ides of March. It just really suits our band and always works.

For special requests we place a menu over the tip jar.

Was that them on the recording? It sounded killer with the syncopated rhythm and trombone.

I think I mentioned this before - last year at the open mic I was hosting there was a female singer/player on stage - very talented singer, does solo and duo gigs all around the region - doing a song that mentions a bunch of different bands in the lyrics and some guy at the bar yells 'Freebird' when she finished the song.
That night, there were not a lot of early sign-ups, so I got back up on stage in a little while and started the second round of songs, and pointing at the guy at the bar, I said 'This one's for you!' and did a quick acoustic version of it. We may hate to play it (along with Mustang Sally, Brown Eyed Girl and... name some more...) but the audience still likes to hear them.

that's the other goofball tongue in cheek "request" we get on jazz and bluegrass gigs! NEVER gets old.

Freebird is a song I swore I would NEVER EVER play again 25 years ago. At one of our gigs back in 07 festival type gig a man walked up and said I'll pay you $100.00 to play Freebird right now. I said payment in advance he handed me a C-note and we whipped out our best version of that Anthem added to our set list and Wow what a response that song gets! We also play Gimme Three Steps, Sweet Home Alabama. I play for the crowd not necessarily what I want to play!
