New Years Eve gigs?

Last NYE gig for me was 33 years ago! Fun to play, but they're tiring and don't let you really "celebrate". We're heading into Boston for First Night festivities, but will be home before midnight.

Played a lively NY gig in Auburndale FL years ago. The place was jumping and we were happy because we really really needed the gig.

About 3rd set our booking agent told us pack up and run. Some clown was waxed out on some drug or the other and smashing windshields in the Parking Lot. Many cops coming soon.

In retrospect, I'm not sure why we booked although we were pretty lit up ourselves so maybe it was guilty fear. 8)

Most of us grabbed the gear and got it done but I detailed one guy to steal the buffet! He just wrapped this long buffet table full of cold cuts and shrimp etc in a table cloth and off we went!

Happy New Year

Hey, that was 80s, not 70s (in the 70s I was rocking much longer hair and a jesus beard!)

Ah yes NYE gigs. Whew!

We did em every year back in the 70s and each was "the one" to put us on the map. No go.

I generally prefer to hide on NYE these days but in 2011 got invited to sit-in with the Blues Doctors for one set at the San Diego Convention center. Somebody else had to worry about the set, lights, sound, vocals, rehearsal etc etc. I just had to show up, do my guitar thing for about 10 songs and the rest of the night was free to enjoy. I took my wife and we got a room at the Marriott next door so no shared road time with drunks. It was a fun night and I would do it again.

This year we played The Mt. Baldy Lodge on Jan 2nd. The place was packed with skiers for the first 2 sets but they had been up since 5 am and did not stay to close the place. The rest of the night was mostly regulars. Had a girl vocalist sit-in with us for one and she had some pipes! Great to be in a working band again made up of really trusted players that get it done.

Didn't those big Fender cabs sound great?? What is that setup? Looks like the old Dual Showman Reverb w/ the black grill-cloth plugged into a Dual Showman cab? Or is it a Bandmaster?

That was a Bandmaster Reverb, and it was the 'large cabinet' Bandmaster 2x12 (the Showman had 15s). Most people know the smaller Bandmaster 2x12 cabinet that sat horizontally (at least to make the 'Fender' read the right way). That freaking cab weighed 90 lbs by itself, I hated moving it!

I had a couple Bandmaster cabs myself but they didn't seem that heavy to me then. My bass amp was called 'Gorgo' and had two cabs each with three fifteens. Used to sleep on them in the back of the van. Now they were heavy!

The head was a 68, the cabinet a 69, that's all I know. The head had been recapped at least once, and transformer replaced twice (before I got it).
