For me, it's;

Country - wish I could play it for fun, but not interested in this genre or the fans in the least.

Christian Contemporary - Sorry, I'm a heathen.

Classic Rock - listened to a lot of it, not looking to recreate it.

Hip Hop/ Rap - I really do love rap music, but it's a genre that eats its young and is populated by meatheads.

And really, how long can you rap without dissing females, referencing weed or homicide? 5 minutes, tops?

I would put down more, but these are the ones I see daily. Sorry, Celtic and Calypso!

There's about a zillion genres, if you include all the various rock spinoffs. Schmed - you list 'rock' on yours, so that pretty much covers them all! By the way, BM admin truncated your email contact on your profile.

Dang! Forgot Tribute/ Cover acts. Metal, too. If it ain't grunge or something...too technical/ aggressive for me.

What turns me off?
- any style with endless repetition.
- or any style which an 8 year old could learn to play within a month.

To interest, me a style must require talent to play.
Then I'll take it on a song by song basis.

And an honest heathen is better than a lying saint any day!

I suffer the indignity of being a sub-genre of this sub-genre. Lyrically, I would have to be considered under this classification, but musically there is little similarity. Much closer to a full-on heathen band.

Yet ironically, people in that larger genre don't necessarily like my sub-genre over the lyrical content (or sometimes it's the language barrier)


Musically speaking, my sub-genre is way more interesting than the rehashed 80s sound of CCM. We're more of a rehashed 70s thing, ya know.... lol

Personally, I like all kinds of music in any language regardless of genre as long at it is authentic and shows some artistic originality.

Yea, if I hear a song and know how to play it by the second verse just by listening, then it's already too boring

I go through phases of what I like to listen to . . .
That's why I play several dozen different kinds of music.
But even then I get bored, and have to hear something new, unusual, or . . . just plain cool.

Usually I cannot find what I need to hear (whatever that may be; sometimes I don't even know).
That's when I attempt to play something new. And it needs to be something new which I can (basically) tolerate listening to.
And once in a great while the music Gods smile on me, and allow me to find a neat little song that's been hiding in the fretboard.
(Heh - then the trick is to remember it correctly, a day later!)

Good songs aren't so much written, as discovered.

I listen to infinitely more musical styles and genres than I can play. I'll keep trying, but I kinda know my limits at this point.

i've zero interest in playing Bro Country, Kenny G Hot-tub "jazz", or any of the twenty thousand sub genres of metal. i'm not a big fan of dumbed down punk either.

if I find they keep a pig in the house, and are overly friendly with it..
