How are sales?

Did you know there are people offering free downloads of the album?

Hey bob...you sound great!

But your work has only just begun. Now that you have a CD to sell, the next step is touring to promote/sell it. Nothing else will generate enough sales to keep those disks from cluttering the garage.

You can send to every radio station in America. It will be a nice stroke to the ego to get airplay...but you won't see any sales. You can get press coverage, blog mentions, even TV won't really sell anything until you've become a household name. ONLY live performances will move those things....

if you haven't already, start building a network of venues around the nation (or at least within a day's drive). Hit a different metropolitan area every weekend, going back no more than 2, maybe 3 times in a year if they really respond to your music. In two or three years, it will be time to produce an even better CD so you can continue.

That's the simply plan to being a full-time singer/songwriter. It's not hard to plan, but not easy to do.

I just checked and that place has some of my stuff too - from my soundcloud account, which is set up only for streaming, not downloading, so they're obviously grabbing the files for downloading.

Bob - if you want inexpensive CDs to give/sell to folks, try Kunaki - very inexpensive, and you can order small quantities (CD-Rs only). Did you use CDBaby, Tunecore or some other service?

Yes, I remember your situation, taking care of others. You are a righteous one! Guess I wanted to impress upon you that the process of selling music has only just begun when the recording is finished.

Even if you never sold the first 100 CDs, just getting to the point of finishing an album is an accomplishment. But if you don't go out and play it, you can't expect them to sell. Keep that in mind in case you ever get depressed about it.

Now, if you decide you are ready to go full time, you actually can make a decent living after you've built the network of venues
