Among my friends and peers. As well as the roll of this site, are a great many musicians of various background.
I would like to pose a question that may seem a little odd.
When struck with a mood melancholy, I enjoy to play at my guitar.
Is it strange that my music does not reflect the same ?

Not at all, it may just be that your soul is speaking to you louder than your emotions. Let whatever comes out, come out, it may be that you need to make music to remedy your state of mind, rather than create music based on your state of mind.

Playing guitar has always been great mental and emotional therapy for me. It's where I can take my mind off of everything else for a few minutes and imagine a better place and time....and then that's what comes out.

But there is healing even in sadness and melancholy, when we let it go.

I'm the same, with guitar and emotions.
That's perhaps one of the reasons that - years ago - I stopped playing for a while: My emotions didn't match the songs I knew how to play.

And the 500 or so songs that I listened to by other artists didn't have the right emotions, either.
.
Then I learned a ton of new chords, and I was able to put them together to reflect nearly any mood I was in . . . or to influence me into sliding into the mood I WANTED to be in.

Music is emotion, and you can change the emotion by using different variations of the chords.
Also, try new and different rhythms . . . .

By the way, with this topic in mind, I uploaded another song, and re-ordered my songs.
I can fit 4 songs into my allotted 15MB.

Each song is a completely Different style of music.

But listen to the first song: "The 4th Emotion."

It's an instrumental, with Guitar and Bass Guitar.
I named it that because it has four very distinctly different emotions in it.
Plus the intro makes Five.
Listen, let your mind go blank, and notice how each part of the song leads your emotions in a slightly different direction. Up down, but mostly 'sideways,' if you know what I mean.

The others:
the 2nd song "Bishop's Pond" is a slower, more melancholy song, with guitar and flutes.
the 3rd song "Half-Jazzed Blues" is high energy, with an unusual twist when it changes from 7ths to 9ths, & with an unusual key change at the same time.
the 4th song, "That's What You Said" is snarky and upbeat, and is closer to rock.

Each of the 4 songs - if you listen to the whole song - is guaranteed to influence your mood.
.
It can be cathartic to create new emotions with your music.
