Columbia House Blames Streaming for Bankruptcy
http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/s ... se-n407856

Is there anyone here who didn't join Columbia House's record-of-the-month system at some point? (at least once!) The trick was to send back the cards turning down the next 'automatic' delivery before the deadline so you didn't get albums delivered at full retail plus shipping/handling. Of course you were oblicated to buy some albums at full price, but if you played it right, you'd get about 20 albums for the price of 5.
BMG did the same thing when CDs first came out, and the deals weer even better, and no obligatory buys, either. Of course what I didn't know at the time (last 80s) was that a lot of the CDs released were in fact pressed from crappy album copies rather than the original masters, setting off the trend of 'remastered' CDs that started in the late 90s and continues to this day.

Interesting factoid in the article linked above - CD and digtal download sales are down 10% (I assume this is year-to-year 2015 to 2014).
