Might be. I don't care if it is, though. I use the hell out of that effect. I have switched over to an Electro Harmonix Cathedral reverb pedal that does reverb better than onboard verb on all of my amps and does delay better than my Boss Delay 7 did. At the SAME TIME!
Try it sometime. Best $221 you ever spent, mang!
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/electro-harmonix-cathedral-stereo-reverb-guitar-effects-pedalI do split my signal at my wah pedal and go to an amp with crunch and bass (And Justice For All sound) and to an amp with lots of fx. I use the wah to modulate tone from one chord or lead to another. It's not always about that Shaft theme type stuff. Try out out.

Just a tool in the tool box. If the tool gets the job done, it is useful. If we spend too many hours playing with only the tool in a dark room... seek help.

Delay is part of the signature sound for guys like The Edge and David Gilmour. It works and I don't think it is cheating.

I use echo for rockabilly stuff. Most of the time I use a single slap. But I prefer sliding a cloned track to get the echo after recording the guitar dry.

Delay is a great effect to add texture to your music. The Joshua Tree album by U2 is a good example of well balanced use of delay effects by the guitarist, The Edge. Cheating is when you use effects to cover up inadequacies or mistakes. The most common effect for this is the overt use of distortion and wha pedals. Having said this, I feel that the thoughtful use of effects that are well balanced with all the instruments is a good thing. I hope that made sense.

Hey Jerry - always glad to hear from you.
The problem I have with multiple effects is keeping track of it all. It's gotten a little easier since I married a Fender Mustang V head to a Marshall cabinet. It's good - not as good as a Marshal head and a lot of goodies - but it keeps my settings organized and offers literally all of them.
cheers

Talbot! Great to hear from you too! Sorry that I haven't been around because of work and school. My set up is simple now: guitar > effects processor > amphead. Chorus, reverb and tremolo are the only effects I have active and I rarely use overdrive/distortion now. This is because of a change in format with the style of music that I have been focusing on. I am in a jazz combo and play in a classical guitar ensemble. I'm still a big fan of metuhl though.

Dude. Jazz, classical guitar, metal. Nice trifecta! Let's hear some stuff.
