My first post. I'm a 56 yr old Bass player that is interested in putting a Soul band together. Just curious of fellow musicians opinions on whether there would be enough work out there to support a Stax ..Motown type cover band with some Original Soul tunes. Wilson Pickett..Otis Redding..Booker T..Sam n Dave ..Stevie Wonder etc..
The area I'm from. Springfield Mo...is saturated with 80s Hairband covers..and seems like another Genre would be a breath of fresh air...even if its from the 60s 70s. Any thoughts?

58 yr old bass player from Mid MO here. i love that kind of music but not sure what to tell you about whether it will fly or not. that said... sometimes you just need to follow your muse and go for it.

hello Jerry, since The Towne House, and Ramones have closed and no new clubs opening I would be hesitant about thinking soul music would work in Spfld... I have some originals I would like to flesh on out with a good bassist though..

Jerry, The Gallery Bistro off the square used to have a jazz band playing there, do you think a smooth jazz format would work?..

So, Motown still has a home in Motown? Or is he in Tempe? Just watch out for Michael McDonald humping your leg!

I told my band that we should start covering soul songs and rocking them out back in 1987 and they said it would never work. About a month after that Michael Bolton came out with "Dock of the Bay" and suddenly everyone was doing it.
You're talking about the greatest music in American history so, yea, it flies anywhere you want to put it; assuming you can pull it off credibly.
