In case you're wondering, the question is:
For amateurprpofessional musicians. If no one ever heard you play, would you still have practiced as much as you have in your life?

yes, to me music is not an ego thing, it is about letting my mind be somewhere else in another spiritual abode, with my mouth always open and contorted, because I am so much into it, and sometimes I drool, cause my mind is somewhere else.. no wonder Muslims know music is spiritually de-base..LOL just kiddin; <LOL

absolutely. i love practicing to improve and be the best i can be (while also accepting my limitations). there's always more to learn and since no one (or very few) ever really arrives, ya gotta enjoy the trip. if people enjoy what i do that's great but first and foremost...it's for me. 8)

I seldom set out to practice.

I just work out songs for the fun of it or I simply play anything for the mellow sounds that come out of my guitar,

So when I play I only do it for my own amusement.

Sometimes I don't find it all that amusing. :(

Dayne

Buy a cheap mirror.

Gaze into it while you play.

When you start to drool - don't drool!

Soon you'll be cool and all over this thing! 8)

That will be 50 bucks!

I play whenever I get a spare moment. I don't think of it as practicing, as I enjoy it! The hours fly by and I've just been doodling around, so I guess that would be classed as practicing!

interesting timing....i just finished giving a mandolin lesson and we were discussing practice routines.

one of the points i was trying to make was that playing your instrument, though valuable and fun.... isn't "practicing". as i see it "practicing" is working on things that need to be worked on.

talent is obviously an important part of any equation, but what i've seen after 35 yrs of teaching is that those who have figured out HOW to practice efficiently.... and how to use their prct time wisely are the ones who make the biggest and quickest gains. and usually they're also the ones who most enjoy practicing! YMMV

Definitely yes. I was put here to play guitar at some serious capacity, Top level or just being able to pick it up and make people feel something musically. A natural everyday thing for me.

Nope. Practicing mostly annoys me and I do it to prepare new stuff or for a gig mostly these days. Playing alone or learning new stuff out of my comfort zone is a necessary evil in order to make music with others. Without another set of ears around the thrill is gone. 8)
