well, it's been a fruitful day so far in the booking dept. a wedding just came in for THE TAVERN RATTLERS, i scored a PLANET JAZZ gig at a winery that we enjoy playing, and i just sent off a contract for an October wedding.

Where it gets a little interesting is that Oct wedding gig is solo....not normally a problem since i play solo instrumental guitar gigs and weddings all the time. but the gal who contacted me wants me to play solo MANDOLIN. for TWO HOURS!

she saw and answered a craigslist ad i have up for mandolin lessons and decided i look like i know my stuff (looks like i fooled another one!).

so, i explained to her that solo mandolin for that length of time isn't going to be all that interesting or captivating. i tried to steer her to one of the bands i play with, but no go.

well, i have a few months to work on my solo classical mandolin repertoire and i'll throw in some fiddle tunes and bluegrass standards. i'll likely bring along a gtr as well.

I love mando, but 2 hours solo - the poor wedding attendees! Are you sure the bride knows what a mandolin is?

First...isn't the definition of a whore "a prostitute that doesn't get paid"?

Do you also have to play "Here Comes the Bride" on a mandolin? If you're just doing background music for a reception, you could probably play a kazoo through trombone and no one would notice.
