Do you think that any of them might feel the same way as you feel .... only about older musicians? Holding a group together without some form of compromise is an impossibility. That is, simply put, the essence of human nature. We would all prefer that things went "our way".

Anyone can use "my band" when talking to others (outside the band) about THE band. But not when talking to the rest of the bandmembers. Unless of course that person is the 'star' and the rest of the band are backing players - and are paid by the 'star' for practice, travel time, expenses, etc etc.
before you even start playing together as a 'band' there needs to be some serious dialog first - if people are not on the same page as to short- and long-term goals, and everything else that's important, don't waste any more time. If things seem ok after talking, then a little jamming, see if styles gel. Then another dialog session to set the next steps.
It ain't high school anymore! (I dunno, what song do you want to do ... I dunno, what songs can you play?....)

If you're a prima donna, go solo, like.... Uh, what's her name?

if only it was as simple as finding people that play their instruments well. but what good is that alone if you can't stand to be in the same room w 'em for more than ten minutes??!?!?!!
i've said it before...i am one lucky S.O.B. People are lucky when they're in a band of talented musicians who are also stand up, good, and decent human beings who can get along w one another.
and i get to play in FOUR bands like that! if that sounds like i'm bragging.....you bet your a$$ i am!
bob....keep fighting the good fight and don't give up hope. you never know what's waiting just around the corner.

Mick Jagger once called Charlie Watts' hotel room and demanded to see 'his' drummer. Mr. Watts of course, took his time and dressed as only he among all the rock stars can do - three piece suit and being Charlie I'm sure he shaved as well.
Then he strolled into the room, walked over to Mick and knocked him across a sofa. Looked down at him and said, "Understand this. You're MY singer!"

A band is like a bank account, what you put in is what you can take out. If you sit at home and write songs, manage the gigs, and make sales for the band, then you will reap the rewards. But if you sit on your ass, smoke dope, and act stupid, you get treated as such. It's business like anything other business and yes it's fun as hell and should be, but let's keep everything in perspective here.

I like playing
with a band, but I am no longer
in a band.
I pay my guys/girls very well and they become my loyal subjects in a benevolent dictatorship. But 90% of what I do is totally solo. I hated it at first but decades of trying to get musicians in a band to see the big picture were for naught.
now I wait for no one....and finally found success as a singer/songwriter/guitarist full-time musician for the last 14 years, even putting kids through college and buying a much nicer house than I had as a locksmith.
I'd have it no other way now.
