I'VE PUT UP DEMOS OF THE NEW GUILD F130RCE

ok, for anyone interested i've uploaded a few videos of the Guild.

fingerpicking:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVvF7oVdcaM

flatpicking:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTulndJ ... e=youtu.be

like a lot of newer acoustics from this era, it's high end is a little hyped. (though not quite as zingy as these videos would indicate)

i was originally looking to purchase this gtr for myself and though i was impressed w it's tone and easy playability....well, the real reason i was looking for another acoustic to add to the stable was because i was wanting a gtr that provided a little more low end booty than my small bodied 0-17 MARTIN.

this body is a little bigger than the 0-17 and w solid the rosewood back and sides i was hoping for some nice round low end. (insert crass joke here). close but no cigar.

it's a nice gtr but i think it's going to the fiddle gal in my bluegrass band.

the recordings were done w the mic on my I-phone. no processing added.

What strings do you have on it?

If you want an acoustic with a bigger bottom end, try out the taylor Grand Symphony (xx6 models) or Grand Orchestra (xx8) - bigger bodied guitars with some real oomph! Of course they are not particularly cheap.

But I still think the Maccaferri's look cooler! :D

thanks josh. yeah, i have to agree...the gypsies are MUCH cooler looking machines! not to mention they're also stinkin' loud!

now, please stop trolling w irrelevant replies such as this one here that are so clearly a thinly cloaked effort at derailing conversation w off topic distractions!

mike...no idea about the strings. they sure ain't flats though! i emailed the previous owner a cpl days ago asking him that very question but haven't heard back. i think this gtr might benefit from some warmer sounding Monel strings. i've got those on my old Harmony archtop and it really mellowed things out.

thanks for checking the vids out, guys. :)

Do you know what gauge they are? Go for mediums for more tone and depth. I've never tried monel. I've been using Martin Lifespan 80/20 for quite a long time because I like coated strings. Medium (MSP6200) on my Taylor, extra lights on my other acoustics.

they're light gauge 12 thru 53 or 54 i'd guess. i'm always loathe to dress any of my acoustics up in real heavy strings. the only acoustic i put a 13-56 set on is that old Harmony archtop . it really needs the heavier strings to drive the top and it's built like a tank so i don't worry about it bearing up under that tension..

the other thing is that i'm pretty much of a weenie when it comes to setup. all my gtrs, basses, mandos have very low action and never wear very heavy strings. basses 40-95. fender gtrs 10-46, Gibson scale gets 11's. mandos 11-40.

i don't believe in working any harder than i need to. a lot of people feel they need a stout action and heavier strings to get good tone....at the risk of sounding big headed ( come and get me, haley!) getting good tone has never been a problem for me!

in other gtr related news, i was playing a beeeee-yoootiful and killer sounding TAYLOR 813ce the other day. WOW. no, i mean.....WOW.

Sounds pretty sweet Planet. I agree with lighter strings on acoustics for gigs. I often play 3-4 sets with a lot of string bends. Heavy strings result in bloodshed at the end of the night.

LOL! Me too Mark, I use 9-42 on electrics and light gauge 012-053 on acoustics. I don't believe in working my arse off to play. If i'm going to play fast I have to use lights! :D

I bet that was an 814ce (no such thing as xx3 series), yeah they sound pretty good and with the new hybrid sets of strings the sound is well-balanced.

I can appreciate using lighter strings, my fingers are toast after an hour on the mediums on my Taylor.

so....i had to check in w Sarah (new owner of the Guild F130RCE) to see if they've bonded and if things are working out between them. i learned they're getting on splendidly. mahzeltof!

the reason i checked w her is because i was getting ready to take aim on a very clean 1975 GUILD D50 on ebay. after learning HER gtr wasn't an option, i went for it and won the auction. so, when the D50 arrives she'll be joining her two older family members.... my '66 Starfire II gtr and '67 Starfire II bass. (i loves me them old vintage Guilds)

unfortunately it won't ship til Monday. grrrrrrrr. :x i've got a 14 day trial period but i'm expecting big things.
