HI folks. Can anyone explain to me how to make this work......
I'm a mandolin player and am experimenting with using some Boss multi effects units and a loop station to layer sound. This all works fine through headphones but when I try to run this into an amp or two it sounds terrible. I want to be able to take the left and right mono and the sub out of my Boss RC 300 loop station and feed this into something that I could use either at home, on stagetting or on the street. Does anyone have any ideas?

You could use a divider network to drop the output level (headphone out) so as not to over drive the input of the secondary unit (Amplifier of recording device input) A simple volume control in series between the headphone out and the amplifier in would do the trick. Another option would be to run all the controls of the "receiving" device flat, and keep the input volume at a minimum. However you may have the best luck with the first option and second in combination.

What do you mean by 'sounds terrible'? Assuming you have your gain structure correct, what you feed into the amp should sound pretty much the same as what you hear in the headphones. What amp are you using?

Put all of your inputs into the looper or if necessary a mixer before the looper. Put your input level and output level at 12 o'clock or right in the middle. All effects like distortion or delay need to be inline BEFORE the looper. When going into an amp the amp needs to have no distortion. It works best running into a P.A. At that point you can use some reverb on the P.A.
