Hmmm...that is a surprise. Wouldn't guess you to be a Supertramp fan.

They wrote some good songs but I could never get past the whiney tone of Hodgson's voice, though he is a good singer.

Theyjust released a super-deluxe remaster Crime of the Century box set. It was the only album of theirs I really liked - played it a lot in 74-75

We're thinking about trying Breakfast in America, along with a half dozen other songs on the list now. Getting into some more difficult stuff, loads of vocals of course...

I've been a Supertramp fan since 1976, just about wore out vinyl copies of Crime of the Century and Even in the Quietest moments. Still have Crime of the Century on CD and had it in the Jeep playing for about 2 weeks not long ago. Rick Davies actually did a lot of the vocals too, Hodgson did all the high parts, Davies the lower stuff like Bloody Well Right, Crime of the Century, Rudy, Asylum and so forth. Hodgson did stuff like School, Babaji, Dreamer and such. Great voice. When he released his first solo album I got it for the song Had A Dream (Sleeping with the Enemy), been tinkering with that one on keyboards for years. Can't sing it though...

Sounds like a fun show JD. One of my college roommates was a Supertramp fanatic and so we listened to them a lot. They had a very different and unique sound compared with other bands of the late 70s with interesting keyboard work. I have never seen them live though.

I really got into classic rock in '06 at work. I would listen to it all day. I got into Supertramp, ELO, Yes and deeper than ever before into Van Halen with David Lee Roth. I got a best of Supertramp and enjoyed it quite a bit, but never got further than that. I liked the Best Of ELO better. Back to Supertramp. I remember being struck by the revelation that I had never really considered the band to be even worth noticing before, and now they were commanding my attention. With falsetto vocals, witty lyrics, clarinet solos and lots of piano. Just seemed liked it was coming from way out in left field.
