A Day of Days
the wind blew all around me,
astounding me,
telling me things I never knew
as the wooded hills gave witness,
to a forgotten grave,
where grass stood waving listless
the birds poured out an unheard symphony,
a thrilling lost score,
every third word chiming harmony
then a light showery mist came and went,
proclaiming time well spent,
my sight full of flowery kisses wet
as the runoff from a nearby stream,
eroding a muddy seam,
so as to wash soft daydreams

that's where a person like me gifted with the ability to phrase lyrics comes in..

Just about any lyrics can work if there is some rhythm lurking there. When I can't figure out how to make something work I listen to NightWish or Frank Sinatra. Phrasing boys...
In my latest project I'm finding that continuity (as in multiple songs in a thematic gravy) can stretch far thinner than I ever suspected. Continuity may just be 'phasing' at the macro level.
In the rare occurrences with words that just don't make it to songs - I deem them poems and move on!

Definitely! And doing it with another person's lyrics is probably easier than doing it with your own. When I write lyrics, I tend to get *stuck* with them. That's why joining hte songwriting group that meets once a month has been great for me, constructive criticism that really helps nail the song down.

Lyrics are almost always last for me... I'd probably finish twice as many tunes if i put more effort into that aspect of songwriting.
I look forward to hearing what you can do with it Dayne.

then there's always the approach oft used by lennon (and beatles) of tossing in a measure or two of a different time signature to even things out.
...as in "All You Need Is Love".
and being masters of time....when the beatles pulled that sleight of hand you might miss it if you didn't actually count things out.
