For fellow lovers of Symphonic Metal I'm so very happy to announce that Nightwish is back. Their new singer (Floor Jansen) is possibly better than Tarja Turronin and that is saying a lot. In the realm of S-Metal these guys are the ones who sort of set the stage, as it were.

This band was too good to rest on the lungs of one singer. Their first replacement just didn't fill the bill - couldn't do the bands classics.

Floor Jansen proves that there are other vocalists who can get the jobb doone. She has the power this band needed. The link includes a whole concert.

Note the fans - all over Europe their fan base looks like this. Young, intelligent and totally digging the music. I'm old, stupid and I'm totally digging it myself.

pretty cool,
I have always been somewhat drawn to the goth metal jams, within limits.
a female vocalist helps.
but it seems that symphonic metal means no guitar player.
the audience doesn't seem to mind though

Yeah, cool. I can get into some of that kind of music. Another one I ran across is Within Temptation. This is one song they do that I like, called "Faster".

And of course if you like beautiful redheads (you know you do) and overpowering, dramatic music with a symphonic edge (and I hope you do) there is always Epica!

what do you mean no guitar player? They have always had a guitarist, emppu..(i think) who is really good.

Also, I kind of liked Annette as their singer, it was nice to hear them doing something a little different, and it was very cool to see her perform the older songs in a new style.

Their keyboard player 'Tuomas' is who inspired me to start playing keyboards in a band..12 years ago..with thier album 'Wishmaster'.
