The bands are coming along. At my age I am finding it hard to find a group that wants to play out as much as I do. I want to play at least 3 times a month. Comfortably my lifestyle allows up to 5 gigs per month. The struggle is guys my age are, 1) professional gigging 20 dates per month, or 2) 1 or 2 dates per month. Crazy but down here south of Houston there seems to be few bands that want to do what I want. I have however found 2 groups that want to play 1 or 2 gigs a month. Both play slightly different styles of music and are great people that think the same way I do. The down side of this is I have to play about 100 songs between the 2. That boils down to learning 30 new songs, playing 50 songs I remember, and trying to remember how to play another 20 all within a month or so! :D

I haven't played in a cover band in a long time - I'd forgotten about that aspect of it. Learning a whole pile of songs in a short while.

It sucks but I soon learned that in cover bands that agonized over every song you weren't going to be playing out very damn soon. When my brother and I did it we sometimes got the gig lined up before we learned the tunes. Keeps you on your toes!

I was in one outfit where we also took country gigs and remember a long weekend learning a whole bunch of that stuff!

It was fun though. No doubt about it.

Good luck with all this and thanks for the reminder.

Jeff - glad both new bands seem ot be working out for you. You're right about folks 'at a certain age', very few who want to truly commit the time.

The one band is already booking gigs. I forgot to mention both these bands are on my side of town!
