I remember exactly where I was when my teacher was called out from class and returned with tears in her eyes. She did her best to keep some form of composure.
50 years later, I remember the words of president that lived in an entirely different world. Words that affect every thing we do today, from medicine, to shaving, from slide rulers, to personal computers, and even musical innovation.

"We will go to the moon, not because it is easy... Because it is hard"

Extrapolate a bit... That was from a speech about life.

I have to remember him, not for his mistakes... But for that great vision.

I always knew a conservative could love a liberal..

Kennedy was the last 'liberal' ever to cut taxes. He made a lot of mistakes and had many flaws but there is a very good chance he would have cut off the madness in Vietnam before it blossomed into a blood bath.

For some reason, and not likely to be repeated - JFK made us feel good ourselves and our country.

The country was already going down hill though - thanks to the good intentions and silly decisions of the 'greatest generation' who were in govt at the time.

I was in ninth grade when the dreadful news came to us. And some dumbass said, "Oh good." I couldn't believe it.

Now? If a big rock destroyed DC utterly I'd stand up and cheer. Times change eh?

Kennedy didn't blink when the Soviet Union was arming Cuba, and they turned tail and ran. It was the beginning of the end of the evil empire. If he only did one thing right, that was it. He was a womanizer long before Clinton, and not entirely a great President. I believe his assassination elevated his Presidency to heights that really didn't exist. He barely won the Presidency and quite possibly would have been a one term president.

Vinny, my whole point was that in a different time not so long ago... All of America was encouraged to succeed. Nothing was unobtainable. The will of a nation, indivisible, under God, with liberty and justice for all, was allowed to accomplish the unbelievable.

Mike, wasn't it Kennedy that got us into the Vietnam mess in the first place? Johnson got the blame because he escalated it. That's the way I remember it. Am I wrong?

As messed up as that family was it still saddens me that they are all dead! He was the first President that used the television media and had that resource to use. Jackie was actually more popular than him. The only person that was as popular as her in comparison was Princess Diana.

I read his biography, PT-109, when I was in elementary schools. If it is true, he was a hero worthy of respect.

Saw a report last night that said once the CIA had covered the assassination investigation in secrecy, it was the beginning of a shadow government in DC that exists until today. If you look close enough, you can find George H Bush's fingerprints everywhere. Hmmm.

But Robert F was the one running things. Jack was always on pain meds for his back or chasing girls. America really lost when Bobby was shot by the Palestinian(s).

Yes, Kennedy got us in but was convinced it was a mistake and planning to get out. That's why it was a mistake to go to Texas, where Ladybird Johnson (married to gigolo LBJ) owned all the weapons manufacturing going into production for Vietnam.

Nope, Vinny. Christian arabs have no motive to kill the Kennedys. On the other hand, the word 'assassination" comes from the muslims.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the CIA helped him, but Sirhan Sirhan was doing the bidding of Arafat, who also assassinated our Saudi Ambassador, Cleo Noel, in 1973.
