Practice last night

Things seem to be working well with Art, he is very easy-going, but seems to be wanting to keep everything very mellow, which is ok, as that is probably where most of our gigs are going to end up - background tunes at restaurant/bars, etc.
Still, I like to kick it up a notch at times, at the right place and instance, of course. Maybe I need to keep looking for that kind of gig as well.
We have practiced a few 'harder' tunes, and he does alright on rhythm for them, but wondering if he's really into the songs. We did Locomotive Breath and Time (Pink Floyd), and both are real upbeat compared to most of the songs we have been working on.
Other new songs we tried last night:
Rocket Man - Elton John
It's Too Late - Carole King (transposed that down to F#m so I could sing it)
Oh Daddy - Fleetwood Mac (transposed up to Gm so Art can sing it)

Sounds Great, you know as long as you are having fun then its all good.
Planning a jam at my house tonight, then another one at a keyboard players house tomorrow night
At my house tonight it will be loud, been enjoying really cranking it up abit lately
This is my best friend and the drummer from AYM, and trying to get the bassist for the new group Ive been playing with, gonna cook some chicken on the grill and then jam out for a couple of hours.
YYZ, Working Man, Higher Ground, Fire, Cant Get Enough, Brickhouse, Roller Coaster, my original, may mess with another one I uncovered the other day, be an interesting mix of music to say the least, then hopefully just a good jam

Art just canceled out of next Wednesday's practice and Thursday's open mic - 'family reasons'. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but ...

Gosh Mike . . .
Things just seem to be all amiss these days.
Changing seasons? School starting up again? Financial stresses ?
I just don't know nor comprehend it.
Just cannot seem to get folk to pull it together.
I have been tempted to just pull the plug on the whole 7 year shebang.
If not for meeting with Eric and working on recording / writing material for our side project I'd done gone insane.
At this point I have to consider that stutter steps beats standing still.
Opportunity seems slipping through our fingers like so much mercury.
It's damn frustrating.

Like I said, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but also I'll wait to hear from him, sent him an updated song list based on what we've practiced or tried so far, gave him copies of both my CDs with lyric/chord sheets for 5 songs we could do (besides the one we already have practiced).
I'll do the open mic on Thursday solo, and try out some new tunes myself.

Remain calm, it might just be a fluke..
You don't know until you know, so just hang on loosely..

Man . . . that's good advice right there.
In numerous ways.

Good/bad/(ugly)
Art told me that he is really busy (family & work) for a while, won't be able to get back into things until November. He said, in an email, that right now he does not have enough time to devote to his '
hobby'. For me, music is more than a hobby, it's a necessity.
Remember - he's the one who contacted me from my ad.

I'm going to continue to look for a duo/trio looking for a guitarist rather than another acoustic partner, at this time. Will see what happens in November with Art.

Sounds like a brush off to me, whats really gonna be different in Nov??
You either make time or you dont.
Hang in there Mike.
Had a great jam sessions last night with half of Aint Yo Mama and half of Slap Jr. so I called it Slap Yo Mama, LOL!
We mainly jammed on some orginal stuff, Scott recorded it, I was jumping all around on guitar parts, trying to find what would fit, every 8 bars or so I would totally change my chord forms and rythyms, maybe since he recorded it he will find something in there that he likes.

Well, I figured he would just say 'he doesn't have time now' if it was a brush-off.
"Slap Yo Mama" - now that's a GREAT band name!

Did 4 songs (solo) at the open mic last night. Place was hopping, there were a few good talents and a few 'first timer' types there as well.
I opened with Wildfire, Michael Murphy song which all the ladies loved.
Then did 2 originals, Freedom Song (from CD #2) and Humanity Zoo (demoed in my player here), then ended with Dobie Gray's Drift Away, got people singing/clapping along with that one, and even some people dancing during HZ and DA. A few compliments on the originals, always nice to hear.

7 songs on Friday night, including 3 originals. And $3 beers. Small crowd at a semi-private club, so better audience the night before. I like Friday night open mics, no looking at the clock.

Three dollar beer should be a hanging offense.
