When I first began learning to play guitar I used Black Diamond strings. Even after I had become a tad better than most of the pickers on my ship I still used them. Today I use Martin Darco 9200's as they sound very much like the old Black Diamonds to my ears.

I believe that Black Diamond used silver plating on their strings. After playing a new set for a few hours your finger tips would be black and the copper plating beneath would show through.
