I shared about getting back into playing, tomorrow night we are having a rehearsal.

Want to see if there is anything there to build on or not. Played with these guys at a gig and it was fun, but time to sit down, talk about what everyone wants and expects, and start building some sort of list.

Fun fun fun

Jimmy I think Im gonna approach it like you have your cover band, go back and pick songs Ive always liked, but I want to put my own spin on them. Been working on the song Turn The Page, will wind up somewhere between the Segar and Metallica version, I think Im gonna try and make the solos signature solos of my goofy ass style.

Been really digging into my amp, of course Ive settled back on the big Mesa, cause it just does everything I want it to do.

We will be practicing at my house in the big room, so it will be a little bit loud Im sure, maybe if I get industrious I will set up a camera and try to record something so people on here can pick my ass apart.

We are also talking about some originals, so Ive been digging into my songs and have 4 to bring to the table. I think Ive got a recording of Save The Last Dance on my player here, also Rock N Roll Ho, which I wrote for Aint Yo Mama. Im writting another one, dont have a title, but it goes something like this:

If it flys
If it floats
If it f**k
Just Rent It

Cause toting another note aint worth a sh*t

Then Ive got this kinda country tune I call it second hand blues, I think Ive got an acoustic version on here.

Why is it all the women I meet
Are married, divorced or gay?
Im not one to cry in my beer,
But half the women I meet are queer!

I think lyrically Ive always kinda likes the Zappa approach with funny satirical lyrics and good music to boot, so Im kinda headed into this thing with the setup in mind, but we shall see.

Hopefully these guys can embrace or at least understand where I want to go.

Whatever happens, its gonna be fun, or Im out.

Had a great jam last night at my house.

Im not totally sure on this thing, I thought we were kinda starting an offshoot of another band, but looks like we will continue to use the name Slap Jr for the time being.

Really good musical group, we stopped and really hammered out some vocal melodies.

The only thing that really stuck out to me, is we dont have a true lead singer, kinda of the problem with most bands I hear, a good solid singer who can handle everything.

All four of us sang stuff, but in the lead vocals I just didnt hear many stand outs to me ear.

When we get back together I will have to mention this, and dont know how it will go over, cause it can be touchy at times, but just another deal.

It is what it is

You could try "Do you guys think we need to get a lead singer?" which would open things up for discussion and you'd get a better feel for what the rest of them are thinking.

Mike Im pretty blunt when it comes to these things. Last night whenever we would all sing together, if it wasnt working I would stop everyone and we would work thru these things accapella til we had it.

Actually have 4 people that can sing, its just a matter of chosing the right material to suit the voices.

We worked thru the song Lights by Journey, and really had it down good, just some of the lead spots, we were trading out parts on it. It may be workable, cause everyone is open minded. We had this 3 part thing going on Lights, that once we stopped and really drilled it in, worked.

We shall see, have a gig lined up the 24th, so we will see how it goes by then. Dont know when our next practice will be, just got informed that my 17 yr old daughter will be moving back in with me for a while, she had been living with her mom most of the time, so that came out of left field, and could prevent me from practicing as much as we need too.

Yea my daughter can sing, but she sings opera of all things!

Plays keys too, dont know if getting her into a band Im playing in would be too cool, I tend to really go out of my way to entertain ladys!
