Hey now! Wanna have some fun, gig around Marin County, and jam out to some original rock/jazz/funk stuff?

I'm a guitar player and songwriter living in Novato. I've played in a few rock bands in the Bay Area these past few years, and I love recording and playing original music. I'm looking for some partners who want to join me in an acoustic trio playing jazzy & rockin' instrumentals.

My goal is to gig around Marin and surrounding counties with 1-2 shows/month (ideally Hopmonk, Sweetwater, places like that), and eventually to record some tracks -- and to make it big of course! . . . but mostly this is for fun and local exposure. If we make money...well, that'd be way cool.

I have a ton of acoustic rock instrumental originals that I think are pretty wicked. I've played some of these tunes in electric combos and received really good feedback and accolades from friends and strangers. Looking to go acoustic and low-fi with some new partners. Definitely interested in your creativity too.

So. . .am I looking for you?
=======================
WANTED #1: BASS PLAYER -- prefer upright, but electric might suffice. Need someone who can keep time, of course, but also looking for good jazz/country/bluegrass/rock chops. We can add a few solos built into the music if you're a soloist too.

WANTED #2: I'd like to work with a SAX and/or CLARINET player, but interested in other options (Fiddle? Banjo? Trumpet?) Ideally looking for a multi-instrumentalist. You'll get solos :-). And if you can shake a tambourine too, that wouldn't hurt. I think my tunes can use texture from melody lines, and there's a great opportunity for additional creativity.

Ideally you live in north Marin County or south Sonoma County. One of my challenges with my other bands is that we practice in OAK, and the drive time is killin' me. Would love partners who can get together in the evenings about 2x/week at my house in Novato (I have a decent-sized studio room).

MY INFLUENCES for this project include stuff like Django Reinhardt, Hot Tuna, Rodrigo y Gabriella, and also, the acoustic instrumental jammy side of bands like Dave Matthews and the Grateful Dead. In general as a musician, I'm also into Stones, Meat Puppets, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Wilco, and also lots of jazz, funk, and bluegrass. I won't pretend I'm as good a player as a single one of those folks. . .but I'm not too shabby either.

ABOUT ME: Long-haired hippie boy, turning 50 this year. 4/20-chronic/friendly. (I don't drink, but I'm okay around alcohol; no white powders or pills please!) Not much musical training, but I've been playing for 30 years. Married to a hot yoga instructor I met on Dead tour (saw them 250+ times. . .but don't worry, I don't obsess on them). Got three awesome kids and a new graddaughter. Love long walks on the beach. . . :-)

Listen to these VERY ROUGH iPhone-recorded demos at http://www.reverbnation.com/gabrielbarkin

• Iguanita
-- Django-inspired gypsy jazz thing.

• His Beak Can Hold More (Than His Belly Can)
-- I wrote this in Feb this year while watching pelicans dive on the Nayarit, Mexico, coast (the song has grown longer since then with a bridge).

• Moving Day
-- funky acoustic jam thing, early demo of arrangement.

Listen to this one at http://www.reverbnation.com/thejammists ... 2-travelin:
• Travelin' -- this is a song with my electric group The Jammists; I don't plan to sing too much in this trio, if at all, but this will give you a sense of my voice for what it's worth. Plus, I get a guitar solo at 3:26 thru the end. :-)

If you've read this far you must be really bored OR kinda interested. Give me a shout. Send me links to you playing some tunes, if you got any. Peace, love, and artful happiness to you!

Gabriel
