The one you'll never see again was May 5 last year. Next one like that will be over 10,000 years from now. I got pictures that night...

Other than that we have a couple every year that are closer than usual, like the one last month. Usually all called super moons.

I get a super moon every morning.

We got our daily thunderstorm just after dark so I didn't get to see it.

I had my telescope out last night, there was some wind but it was a decent night otherwise; I checked out the moon, Albireo in Cygnus and a few other things. I can't wait for the comet this fall.

I'd lay for hours with my old WWI field glasses balanced on a stick examining he moon when I was in my early teens.
I opted for a microscope instead of a telescope one special Christmas when there was some extra cash in the family coffers for such.
My kids had one an aunt bought them ( telescope ) it was a lot of fun too.
Love to have one, though I would prefer just a very high quality spotting scope. But dayum, that stuff is pricy . . .

I've always had telescopes from when I was little. My current scope is a big old Meade reflector. It's a pain to move around but we used it to watch the Shoemaker-Levy comet hit Jupiter back in 1994 and comet Hale-Bopp in 1997.
