Most UNDER-RATED Guitarists - YOUR OPINION

OK,

My last thread on OVER-RATED guitarists was an easy one.

This ons is gonna be much harder and separates the real musicians from the not so real! :)

So which guitar player(s) are sorely missing the RESPECT they deserve in the industry and amongst peers.

Here is my list

1) Ritchie Blackmore - The guy is a guitar GOD and plays on the same stage as guys like Hendrix, Page, EVH, Yngvwie, Vai, Vaughan....but we never really hear about t his. Without Blackmore all us neo-classical lead guitar players would either not exist or suck.

2) Jason Becker - (pre-disability) probably the best technical guitar player in his time next to Vai. (post disability) probably the next Mozart or Beethoven. Centuries from now our decendants will see this.

3) That other guy from WHAM :) OK I dont know if he plays guitar but I saw him holding one in one of their videos haha

cheers!

John

Small world Vinny. The Misunderstood and Glenn Ross Campbell were from my home town (Riverside CA) and we used to see them play in the park when I was just a wee laddy. A great mid 60s underground psychedelic band that probably should have stayed in LA or the San Francisco area and rose along with The Doors, Janis, Jefferson Airplane, and others. In London they were simply Misunderstood. 8)

That's cool you got to see them way back! I would guess they hoped to get "discovered" ala Hendrix over in London.

I hadn't heard of The Misunderstood back in early 70's, when I got the first Juicy Lucy album. As a teen in a garage band that had a lap steel guitar player, we used to disturb our neighbors with dubious attempts to cover a couple of the Juicy Lucy tunes .. we played a few of Rory Gallagher's songs too.

I like some of the Misunderstood tracks better. You might be right about them staying in Cal. ... even if they got passed over by the 60's hippie's .. seems like they could maybe have grown into in the LA scene of the early 70's with Little Feat, Eagles, Burrito Bros., Ry Cooder, etc.

Mikael Akerfeldt.
I know he is loved, but definitely not enough.
Opeth are the masters of crossing genres. I don't even feel comfortable calling them a metal band because Akerfeldt's songs (which can exceed 10 minutes in length) can be a SMOOTH transition of metal, folk, blues and classical elements.

My gut reaction is Danny Gatton, but someone mentioned Rory, he was basically Stevie Ray way ahead of time, never got the respect he deserved.
