Sharing a bit of good forftune. Just bought an American Standard P-Bass in white with my favorite maple neck. It simple rocks - I feel like I just got out of jail and here is my sweetie! 8)

Picked it up this evening. It's utterly beautiful. The white is a much deeper and meaningful white than in the picture. I played it on an Acoustic prac amp in the store - sounded ok. Action is superb - setup needs a bit of work on harmonics - and I'll change out the Fender strings.

But when I got it home and plugged it into my rig (working man 200 watt stack with 2 x 10 and 1 x 15) and cranked it - holy sh*t that thing sounded good! I couldn't tune the bass deep enough to smush that great rich bass sound. And on various permutations of treble it simply screamed.

I love my Stratocaster and I love to play guitar. But tonight reminded me of who I am when I play in bands. It was pretty damn good.

Awesome Mike! You can't beat a P bass for tone or playability. Both of my bass players play P's. Pete has a '66 that is amazing, I've never played a better bass, I used it on a lot of my recordings. Paul has a few, he plays a red one most of the time, not sure of the year. I have a 2000 AIM Precision, it plays great but doesn't have the tone like Pete's. Enjoy!

Thanks boys...

Jahva - unfortunately I thought I was getting the black pickguard but ended up with the beachboys look! I'll be correcting that.

My bassist rocks the same instrument. Fender basses are awesome. The necks are the best...

Kruliosis

You're right about the Fender neck. I am puzzled by it on some ways - the maple necks I use are pretty darn big and wide - nothing like playing a guitar. Maybe that's the point.

I have a Hohner Bass V which is pretty sweet with lots of punch. Plays like a guitar. I like having the extra fret or two but have got to the point where if I want to play guitar I'll grab the Stratocaster. I'll be saving the Hohner for a backup and for when I really need to growl a low B for some reason.

That's a beauty. I just bought a squire last night. Waiting for it to arrive... I'm not really a bass player (yet), so I figure cheap is the way to go for me. But I know what nice one looks like and that bass looks like a beauty!

I'm not usually a fan of maple fingerboards but with the Olympic white it does look very fetching. Congrats, Mike. I hope the two of you are very happy together!

Peg

Thanks. It's a match made in heaven. The maple necks are wide but I have German peasant hands so I have maple on my six strings too.

I love the white. My primary basses in my life have been white. 8)
We used to joke that white sustains better.

Mike Ive had a P bass forever, I think mine is a 75 model.

It has an active pickup, EMG I think, and a Badass Tailpiece. Geddy Lees model comes stock with the tailpiece, so if you ever get into modding it, you might look into that.

The tailpiece gave mine a little better sustain, and the active pickup allows you to really use the tone and volume control on the bass.

Happy for you man, rock on!
