Weekend Practice Nights... Opinions?

What is your opinion on Fri, Sat or Sun practice? I've been going back and forth with another person on this and I thought I'd throw it out here....

My opinion is that it's easier to schedule a steady weeknight rather than try and work around people's weekend family events, etc. Gigging dates are a different story but we have lives outside of the band and trying to schedule around weekends is a major headache.

What do you guys think?

Absolutely Tom. Never rehearse on Saturday, and only on a Friday or a Sunday if necessary. Rehearsing during the work week is tough but better for all.

For some reason I always liked practices on monday or wed night, dont know why.

I always liked to keep the weekend open for gigs or personal stuff.

Good Luck

Same here... I can never see the reason behind trying to schedule on a weekend except for a gig...

I actually quit a band that only rehearsed on Saturday nights. They used it for their social time too, it usually turned into a drunken party.

Weeknights are usually best, assuming members' dayjob schedules cooperate. Weekend days (occasionally) can be good, because you can put in a good 4-5 hours. But never weekend nights.
Funny, I was talking to a guy last night who is going to have to give up his Sunday night radio show because the band he just joined practices Sunday nights - thought that was strange at the time. And in October, when The Walking Dead starts up again - no f*cking way!

See if you had a girlfriend you'd quickly find out that's a bad idea...

LOL Sundays are out for me as well, come october.. nothing will stop me from watching the walking dead!!

In reality, gigs can happen on FRI or SAT nights, so it's not wise to try to wrap rehearsals around them. Sundays are typically family days.

If someone can't find at least ONE weeknight, and have fri/sat open for gigs, then I don't see the point in them being in a band. I've seen this countless times where someone auditions, is a good enough player, only to turn around and have scheduling issues out the wazoo. When I worked a 2nd shift job for 5 years, guess what? I wasn't in a band. I knew all too well that my job prevented me from having the flexibility to be in a band unhindered.

Someone wants to bring that into a band, only tells me they only care about themselves and will be a headache for their entire duration with the band. Not worth it.

I love the CL ads that say "I work afternoons but I can rehearse on Wednesday mornings".

The crazy thing is that he actually CAN play on a weeknight... He just prefers to play on Fridays... I tried to show him that it's more logical to shoot for a weeknight as it's easier to get 5 guys together on a Wednesday than a weekend, but he's got some cognitive dissociation going on and insisting it's easier to schedule weekends.

Personally, I think he's got control issues....
