Picked up a new Yamaha 16-channel board and new mics for our gig Saturday. We looked at Mackie but the Yamaha was cheaper and has on-board effects. We hooked it up last night and it sounds great! This is going to be epic.

New gear is always good! Just keep the old stuff as backup. I have a Mackie PRO FX12 that has onboard FX.

Cool. Yamaha is not a second by any means. I have a couple of Mackie boards and I have found them to be no better than the cheaper mixers that I use on some of my DAW's. At least the specs are about the same and the boards sound every bit as good to my ears. Will they hold up any better with abuse? Never found that out.

The thing that I admire about Yamaha is that when you get a 350 watt per channel stereo power amp, they usually put out about 20 watts per channel usable music power (RMS) above their rated power. Peavy and many others on the other hand greatly exaggerate their true RMS. Sometimes by as much as 200%. Congrats on a wise choice.

Cool Jim

We use a 16 channel Mackie.

But I have a bunch of friends using Yamaha, hell we use Yamaha Speakers and a Yamaha Amp.

Good Luck on your gig this weekend!
