Eight shots, seven of which killed the abductor, one of which killed the abducted. The officer was more in fear of his own life than the victim's. It's possible that if he only fired once the victim would have lived.

Yeah, I read that, I was like EIGHT? Overkill is an understatement. The shot that hit the victim was a headshot no less.

Sadly, the police department in NYC is responsible for the majority of gun related deaths there. One place I won't be moving to, ever.

I guess that sends a message to criminals that hostage taking isn't negotiable and its a guaranteed death sentence/adhoc. There will be much criticism about this (8 shots), but then again, the people who are the most critical, usually predicate their arguments on little to no experience of their own. (As usual). I am glad I am not a cop.

You didn't read the article so the rest of your statement was foolish.

I didn't read THAT article because I knew it was from a liberal who see's everything from a twisted perspective. Above is an article with both views.

Well I read both and there's hardly any difference. Your remarks are still stupid at best, congratulating a police officer for killing an innocent citizen. I hope he is fired, he's on "sick" leave now as they decide if he acted criminally.

Apparently the cop put himself in a tight position (probably by accident) and decided to shoot his way out of it. I call it negligent homicide.

The real question is simple: did he shoot the girl deliberately? (there are some who think he did, to get her out of the way) if so, hang him. Or was it an accident? - if so, jail him. Note - I'm glad the bad guy is dead but not at that price.

You simply do NOT fire a barrage of shots at someone holding a girl in front of him. I would understand a single headshot to the freak. But very few people can pull that off with adrenaline pounding their body. If he was a man, he'd have put the girl's life above his but he chose himself first.

This has become a nationwide epidemic - the cops use their guns like frightened children - totally oblivious to where all those rounds are ending up. Consider - 200 shots fired at the boat where that Boston freak was hiding. I've seen the pics - the boat was riddled but not nearly as much as you'd expect. Those rounds ended up in people's homes.

Cops should be held to the exact standards of any other citizen - and if they can't use guns responsibly they should be disarmed.

Disclaimer: Even though I attended police academy in the 80's (Whittier CA) I haven't respected police since they strutted around in their trendy swat costumes at Columbine 'minimizing officer casualties' while kids were murdered.

Thank you Mike! I totally understand having to make a difficult decision and shoot, my issue is eight shots, which is definitely reckless.

No Shelly your comment is stupid and apparently you have very limited reading comprehension! I wasn't congratulating the cop for shooting the innocent victim the congrats was for shooting and killing the POS that caused the incident. I don't understand how someone such as yourself can get two degree's and still be such a dumbass.

You are an idiot. All you cared about was saving the taxpayers money. Not a word about the innocent victim. You're too stupid to get through life on your own, your wife must make the big decisions.

This is the second incident in 8 months... Where a parolee with a violent history was released. The first one carjacked and killed a citizen and then killed a a cop in cold blood, without a chance.
The second one is this... A violent parolee is released... Home invades an apartment. Subdues 4 persons at the threat of death.

Does any one realize the balls it takes to run into a situation... when you KNOW SOME ONE WILL FIRE ON YOU.

Even the best military experts will tell you that returning fire is at best 50%

This cop wanted to go home that night. HOW CAN YOU BLAME HIM?

He is deeply remorseful... He will be second guessing the rest of his life.

Mean while... How did the GOVERNOR, of the GREAT STATE OF NEW YORK... ALLOW ANOTHER KILLER OUT ON THE STREETS?

I'll tell you how. HE WAS TO BUSY TAKING GUNS AWAY FROM PEOPLE LIKE ME... THAT WOULD NEVER, EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!!

CUOMO,,, GO FUUCK YOURSELF. YOU KILLED THAT BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY!!!

Its an awful situation to be thrust in... I will say though, A trained marksman could have and should have done it in one shot. Two taps maximum. That is something I would be very hard on any policeman about... He/she has no business toting a weapon and badge if he's/she's an amatuer...

The best marksmen in the world will tell you it is completely different when some one is shooting back.

The Army and the Marine corp had to completely revise their training after WW2. 1 in 10 men were actually able to fire in response to being shot at.

The point here is not about this cop who will have to live with missing one shot... For the rest of his life.

This is about government gone wild. The CEO of my state should have never allowed this MANIAC out on parole.

Let's put the blame where it really belongs... MR GOVERNOR, RESIGN... OR BE PROSECUTED!
