Country Music has gotten huge, I enjoyed the awards show last night. Brad Paisley and that young dude Hunter were ripping it up, only you couldnt hear paisleys guitar, bad sound, John Mayer played with Paisley later.

I cant think of the guys name, but he plays that solo acoustic song about She Loves Me Like Jesus Does, love that song, love the sparse guitar line he plays.

I hate to admit it, but Ive been listening to a lot of country music lately, and I love the lyrics to the songs. I guess part of it is that the songs are more rocking than they used to be. Also a lot of the guitar parts are just tasty to me, I hear more interesting guitar parts in country than I do in the current rock songs.

One of the groups even had a drummer with a Mo-Hawk, LOL, it aint your daddys country music anymore.

It certainly appears that there is. Celebrities in music, acting and whatever always manage to promote themselves and puff up each other at every opportunity.

But what about the nobody's on the reality shows?

Shouldn't there be a "Nobody Awards" just for them? And maybe even e viewer awards for those who sop up this mediocre award show crap.

I think they have country music award shows on every 2 to 3 months. IMO pop and rock has lost it's sense of melody and country is the new rock! I grew up with country when country wasn't cool. I like the old and the new always have and always will!

ouch! good one.

i dig the older stuff but have no use for nascar pop. to my ears it's bad '80's R&R played on top of the beat like it's got a stick (or several) up it's a$$.

commercial country music has always been 15-20 yrs behind whatever was popular back then. NOW it's ok for a drummer to have a mohawk? wow..how cutting edge.

so, NOW it's ok to have distorted and raunchy sounding gtrs? hmmm...more cutting edge stuff. glad y'all are ketchin' up!

and worst of all...the worst is when some lily white bread pretend country yahoo starts rapping w their put on twang and zero sense of groove. damn...these people couldn't swing if they were hanging from a rope.

i guess i just hate and resent anything that i consider to dumbed down to sell product.

the music just doesn't have to be dumbed down as much as it is, i believe.

there are some some songs that do have a clever line or two...or maybe even a interesting or clever story ..."Good Directions" comes to mind.

but if i have to hear one more copycat version of last month's big hit that bragged "well, i'm from the country and my mama raised me right. we love sitting on the porch and goin' down to the swimmin' hole in our beat up F150 to have a few cold ones, etc, etc" i swear i WILL be tempted to find an assault weapon!

and then when ya figure the guy singing about how much he loved growing up w his small town values prolly is the latest photo/telegenic hunk that just got off the plane from San Francisco.....gadzooks.

"purist"?

nah...jeff ya got the wrong guy.

i'm the guy who gets the drummer in trouble by playing a reggae bass line on a george strait song and the drummer can't resist going along w it.

i know you're kidding, jeff but think about it for a second or two. who's more "conventional"....or at least approaches things more "conventionally".... a jazz guy...or someone playing cover tunes?

not meant as a cut, bro....jus' sayin is all.

yeah....you are right tho, i have no love and little patience for "contemporary country"

I was refering to your reggae bass line over a Geoge Strait tune. I always liked "Stars On The Water" but I prefer the Buffet version. Also songs like Rag Top Day. I miss playing that stuff. I am all Phguked up! I like playing that style!

yikes....pls excuse my doofitudiness and accept my apology for misunderstang where you were coming from, jeff!!!!

yeah, i guess i do like mixing things up musically and often i'm the one taking things in a different direction to see..."hmmmm, what if....."

Planet Jazz gig the other day i was on bass. someone called "Little Sunflower" a great jazz tune by trumpet legend freddie hubbard. the bass and drums usually kick it off and i decided we needed to try it w a fast hip hop groove! the sax player looked on in horror anticipating how he'd make the melody work...and then he just KILLED on it! i live for those spontaneous moments when it all comes together!
