Suggestions for Bandmix

Suggestions for Bandmix (my email went unanswered): Let people put in their town name. I live near a big city. Using zip code only, the town listed is the post office. Often, the name is technically correct, but not necessarily common knowledge, especially near a big city where there can be dozens of old neighborhood names. I have to look on a map. Why can't people put in "West Baltimore" or "Dallas - north" for example. Have the software do the distance calculation from the zip code - that's enough. Second item - since people select from a template, why not add a field for what MAIN instrument is played. People list so many instruments - I am sure they are not proficient in all they list, and that's a drag for the responder that thinks some guy plays tenor guitar, when actually he plays 6-string, but fooled with a tenor once or twice. I find I have to do a lot of work to figure where people live, and I have to wade through paragraphs of info listing just about every instrument in the orchestra (in one listing).

I have no complaints.. beggars can not be choosers.. I am very thankful wealthy Internet telephony personnel make this site available to common folks like me for free... I am generally most happy when I get the women do not want younger men we want you! advertisement..

sorry Dane, your response doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Call yourself a beggar if you choose. I don't think money has anything to do with this. I just got another "New Musicians in Your Area" email. Lots of folks within a hundred miles or so who seem to each play a number of instruments, each of whom are looking for orchestras full of instrumentalists, each of whom sing in several vocal ranges, and each of whom like several different types of music. Free or not, I think the whole interface could provide a lot more specific information, and if you find Mr or Ms Right, pay BandMix and get their contact info. I'll leave your last sentence to the philosophers (or English teachers).

Rick, you been here very long?
I don't want to step on your testicles, but you might want to wait a little bit before you go on with that line.
And yeah we got some who don't write very proficiently, you just have to look past the punctuation and glean what they really mean.
"It's not a thing, man".

I agree with the "main instrument".. I had suggested it profusely in the forums and in emails to support 3 years ago when I was a paying member.
I also suggested being able to set your profile specifically to "______ looking for band" and alternatively "band looking for ____ ".. the filtering on the search tools SUCKS and this is the biggest reason this site can't beat CL.
CL is still the status quo for local bands, and practically screams to be replaced. I'm shocked something else hasn't moved in yet.. and BMIX has had an unprecedented amount of time to jump on it. In the world of internet, it's been millennial...
The General Chat and USA chat are NOT NEW, hows about changing the label? It just seems like this whole operation is hands off after it was implemented.
Maybe it's not the cash cow they foresaw? Who knows.. but it's so close to the target it hurts to watch it miss continuously and BMIX just doesn't see the value in taking better AIM at the target. There's so much RIGHT about this site that again.. it hurts.
And forum moderation!! Needed. Wanted. People chase off a lot of potential traffic because of internet bullying, for lack of a better term. There's people who are honest and willing to do it for free. You can't beat that.. but still BMIX, you choose to do nothing.

Rick - for me, my compaint is more with how some people put their info in their profile. I don't search by 'looking for", I just check tthe two state listings (Mass and NH) daily for updated profiles and new entries. How many times do I see a profile that MIGHT be a potential bandmate, only that person has not given a lot of inforation on WHAT EXACTLY THEY ARE LOOKING FOR or, worse yet, no way to contact them if you are not a premium member.
BTW, your profile is guilty of both!

I got a new box 'upgraded' with Windows 8. It has some advantages and one of this is that BM now magically has a spell checker! Lucky for me - I was about to give up drinking!

I still hoist a few cold ones but I don't drink as much as in my youth. People used to buy us shots all the time, and driving home could be tricky. Now I'll have a few beers but never get crazy like that.
