Had a friend call me to see if I could help him learn to play the solo Leslie West played.

I had to smile. This was from a whole different era. It was a time when bands were bands and musicians were able to translate a feeling that went far beyond individual notes. Sometimes the recordings were not that good... but the feeling always was. Sometimes the playing wasn't that technical... but the feeling always was.

Cool.

Great old Jack Bruce tune, I used to do it. The live version at Woodstock has the best solo. Coincidentally the first Mountain album came out 43 years ago today.

Mountain was the first rock concert I ever went to! Racquet Ball Club at the Sheraton in Hyannis in summer of 71!

always loved this tune. my fave mountain song by far. such impassioned singing from felix paplilardi....who remains widely overlooked and underated as a great singer and bassist.

indeed. i have it on one the many mountain "hits" collection. felix had ridiculous tone and feel. he's on my short list of great rock bassists. just brilliant choices he made... and that voice....

just one more example of bassists making great arrangers.

Felix was truly great but he did make one very bad decision - his taste in women ended up being fatal.

btw - Lesley West has a new record which is great - called Usual Supsects.

Here is pretty wild cut:

Unusual Suspects Mike, released in 2011. Thanks for posting, makes me think we all have more in common than what is shown on this forum.

Nice tune. I forgot Mountain played Woodstock... and that was my era. We got into their stuff when Mississippi Queen came out and that was always a fun song to cover.

Really?
How could I remember Sha-Na-Na and forget Mountain?

Here's a rare TV appearance by Mountain on the short lived Dennis Miller Show in 1992!

Nice! I saw him at The Magic Bag a few years back, the bass player messed up and he chewed him out on stage. Jeff Beck once said that Leslie West was his favorite guitar player.
