The last time I saw Alvin was with Ten Years After opening for ELP. After all the great ones are gone rock & roll will be dead because the schlock being passed off these days for it sucks.

Don't forget his backward scream. David Lee Roth tried to appropriate it, as did Dale Bozzio, but Alvin did it the best!

Man that song going home on woodstock is epic, I can remember seeing that years ago and thinking how does he play so damn fast! One of the early shred fest in my opinion.
Man on man, big loss, thanks for sharing that Jimmy

Alvin Lee was one of the first 'speed' guitarists. I saw TYA in 73 in Boston, and he was truly amazing.
'Complications from routine surgery' is what this article says:

i was just listening to one of my all time favorite records recently - Cricklewood Green. Alvin Lee was the man.
I remember in the early days it was claimed that his fingers has been clocked (by whom, I wondered?) as the fastest in the world.
Loved his bass player too - one of the first to put the bass up front where it belongs (IMHO).

"Ssssh" was my first TYA album, then "Cricklewood Green" and "Watt". All great! "A Space In Time" was their biggest, but I also enjoyed "Rock & Roll Music To The World".

when I was in 8th grade ..after school football practice well, we'll call him Exley (so as not to give out his full name) was so into Alvin Lee he carried the Ten Years After album named "A Space In Time" to football practice and used to say "Alvin Lee and his magical guitar" all the time with a cadence when taking breaks from pushing the sled around and doing wind sprints,.. he was really devoted to his style of playing and good singing, so much he carried that album to football practice..

R&RMTTW was the tour I saw. If I got the year right (it could have been 72) 40 years ago - wow ... Alvin was 29 and I was 16!
