Linux recording (Solved)

A few years ago I mentioned that this would be my 'big wish'. To record both in midi and audio on Linux. I can now, and proudly announce..... that I can actually do this
What a relief I can tell you. It was pretty simple in the end. Leaving things for some time, then coming back to them, really does help.

What I need to do now, is undo what I did, do it, then undo it, so it becomes second nature. After that point I should be able to help anyone who wants to try the free route.
By the way. Ardour 3 is nearly complete. It's a complete DAW with Midi/Audio combo, and works. Like all software, until you've used it, it can be daunting.

Subnote:
Many people in the industry will scoff at Linux, but there's an app for everything, and for free, with a learning curve that only costs time, not money.
I rather like leaving the hammer and nail industry as regards mixing in cement,'their' view of what our/your music should sound like.

Will let you know.

I've been In IT for almost 20 years. All I can tell you is that now, I hate it with more passion than ever before. Everybody and their fkn mother has yet another POS software... they unarbitralitly raise the learning curve. They mess with the rules and best practices of prior versions and they turn everything that was sh*t to begin with, into worse sh*t. Fk them all..
Sorry Chp its nothing personal.
On the flip side...Linux does rock!

Hi Paper,
Yeah me too for many years. However this wasn't a problem with updates, changes in kernels and so on. This was just plain old, 'not seeing it'.
Now I do. The only problem is mix downs from midi to wave, but not such a biggy frankly. Jack was throwing me off keel for some time. The new Kernels are RT, so this helped a great deal, and after all everyone needs real time for everything these days. My setup is mint 12, which is lightening fast, never fails, and I get things done.
Mate is on the rails soon with a much better setup. Try it sometime, I know I will.

Yes it rocks, thanks for the reply Paper.

Just thought I would drop a note on advances. Going pretty well, and recently I've bumped into some people who use Linux live.
I'm at the stage now where I can start writing again. A few hics here and there. (No jokes please) :D
I'm ready to replace the elastic on the Mic, get that setup in some sort of PortaBin for recording. I've as yet to decide if this will work? I wanted to create a small soundbooth for the Mic alone, then found they actually sell them for lots of money. YouTube thankfully provided some ideas on making one.

I had a good few people ask me how I get my vocal sound???? Simple, I sing in the open, let the voice ride with whatever is around it, simple air. However this can prove a pain when someone is using a hammer next door  Or the Psychotic coughing twat never stops coughing, perhaps I could sample that..... :D

Anywho, My Story starts in NYC for the Album, a Taxi Cab in fact. It is an odyssey of sorts, combining much of the stuff from my whacko Brain, my travels and son on, which of course is ever so normal compared to what goes on at Terra.

I'll provide in depth stuff on the Linux side and recording what I'm doing on my site in the near future if anyone is interested. I want it to be as live as possible in a virtual way.

I've nearly written a book 5 times, I'm so lucky that I can play something, and have something in music instead.
Be well all - catch yah later

Thanks Paper.
Can't wait to start, just a few things here and there that are bugs in the system. Ironing them out one by one. Sad really that Facebook is the norm, because Forums were the heart and sole of the Internet before people started talking about 'quotes' and telling the world they were at the bank.
Best to you,

Chippy
