This is only a personal opinion, So. As we all know, Everyone possesses certain levels of ability as musicians. [Talent] Through the years playing with different bands & countless musicians, I have found that there are so many different levels & categroies of talent that individual musicians have. And I believe every musician, Whether they realize their abilities or prefer to not see the full extent of their talent, I guess is their personal priority. " Im Looking At The Man In The Mirror" Myself. For instance, My quality of vocals may not be at the same level as my gift of funk at playing the bass, Dynamics, Backup vocals, personality, etc. There are so many more aspects of different talents a musician possesses. What I am trying to point out is, A desire of knowledge & new discoverys of music to me. THE LOVE OF MUSIC, It makes the world go round!

I'll tell you, the love of music makes MY world go around.
I spend a hell of a lot more time playing music than I do talking about it.
.
Whatever anyone's present level is, they can improve. How?
Learn at least one new chord every week.
Learn 40 variations of 'A.' Or 50 . . .
Make up a new rhythm.
Try playing a rock song as a blues song. Or reggae. Or funk . . .
Try playing a song in all 9ths, or 7ths . . . or sus4ths . . .
Make up a new song. Play it back, and try stuff along with it that'll make it better. Then erase the old copy & record the improved copy. And do it again & again . . .
.
Yeah . . .I hear you . . . I loooove music.

Talent is very subjective...

I guess there are people who can learn things much faster than others. There are people who can learn much more complicated things than others. This may not be talent as much as technical ability to learn. I've played with some people who work their ass off all the time and others who just have the ability to almost instantly get it. To me talent has a different meaning. Talent is more the ability to attract attention, personal magnetism, regardless of how technically proficient they are. I've played with people who weren't that great of a musician but were much more of a crowd pleaser. It's really a great bonus to be technically proficient AND a crowd pleaser at the same time. It's all very subjective. Later...

I agree with all the above Bob. Would the different levels of talent we posses as artist, Have anything to do with the gift of musical ability that we are each born with? 'You either have it or you dont' [As to say] This is only my personal view as a single point toward the subject. Like you stated, "Talent is very subjective" And at times can also be contradictive, etc. Its good to hear different personal opinions on this subject. Thank You.
