Thats how ya do it! I haven't heard of this guy. Great player but his sound has too much processing going on! I much prefer that raw tele tone when a picker plays like that!

I agree he's got too much "stuff" on it. A Tele is like a good steak. It tastes great right off the grill so no need to smother it with barbeque sauce. The kid can sure play though. A nicely crafted guitar instrumental I think. I wish I could buy his right hand. :)

J7, I really like Brad Paisley's tone! It is a little dirtier than some country players but dang the tone he gets out of that Tele and Dr. Z amp just really sounds good to my ear!

And another vote for too much "stuff" going on with his processing. Waaaaaay too much compression for me. I was also bugged by his timing in a few spots.

While I"ve got my red pen out....we all have played solos that were mapped out and there's no sin in that, but I don't think it should SOUND like it's all been scripted. This song sounds too much like every move and every note is mapped out.

Oooh Peg you are tough today. :D

Yes I think it is totally mapped out and a non-improvisational guitar instrumental. A very different animal from a John Coltrane improv adventure. I appreciate both and I think he is true to the style and form of a chickn pick'n shred ala Roy Clark, Brent Mason, James Burton and others.

It's human and certainly not perfect but a very fun little romp. It's cold and gloomy outside today so I need a little musical pick-me-up. This made my day!

I had to turn on the air cond. in my office and out in the shop. We have had the a.c. on at the house for the last week. I have been wearing tee shirt and shorts for a week now (at home). The weather forcasters are saying winter may be over for the upper Texas gulf coast! 8)

HA! Sorry, I certainly didn't intend to rain on anyone's parade, J7. Yeah, I get that about it not being improvisational but my point is that it shouldn't SOUND like it's all been laid out. He is good and it's an alright piece i suppose, but it just left me a little cold with it coming off (to me) as so "calculated".

Guess I'm a little cranky because the weather is pretty damn cold here in Southwest MA! When IS spring????

It is spring here in H-town. I guess you guys will have to wait for Punxtawany Phil! Not sure if I spelled that right?

pretty chilly here in mid-mo. i'm getting ready to load the car up for tonight's gig. thankfully i'm travelling light w just a bass and a cpl of mandos, small bass amp, and roland cube 60. they were calling for freezing rain this afternoon but luckily they've moved that up to 3:00 AM!

oh yeah...this thread's about wally the tele guy! feh. good right hand and not a bad tune but too much compression and not enough grease for me. and yeah...some little hinky time issues in there.

would i mind having his right hand? hell no!

Funny, I was sort of reading between the lines in Peg's post and thinking quietly to myself that maybe there was more than a purely musical critique going on. Peg seems pretty refined for a young lass and I thought she might have issues with any musician who's other signature piece is called "Cow Tippin". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqbef6y9LEs

Ha, I like the kid. He's rough around the edges and has a lot to learn still but he's got something. Reminds me a bit of another young guitar slinger I knew about 30 years ago.

Blow me old man!

Haha. I kid. I kid! Me "refined"? Nah. I smoke, cuss, drink, talk too loud, etc. Well, ok...no, I don't smoke. 8)
