Ive shared on here a couple of times about the situation with my band.

Our singer has a health issue he hasnt addressed which has been preventing us from playing much, well last night my bassist left a message that he would be moving a couple of states away.

He had told this around Christmas.

I sensed it coming and have been looking into a few CL ads, have been talking to a few guys i know who are active playing, looking for another outlet.

I may try to get with some guys this weekend, my age group, drummer, bass and keys,, looking for lead guitar and VOCALS!

I havent actually been a lead singer in a few years, but I think Im going to go play with them and just see if there is anything there or not.

Wish me luck!

Yeah the flow of constant change Johnny. Looks like we're gonna have to dump our new bass player, he's just can't hang. Nice guy and all but he's just not at our level musically. I hate firing people.

X2!!

Man! I'm excited for you to be a full frontman! You clearly have the guitar chops and the charisma. I really look forward to seeing what comes of this.

I am really sorry about your long time band dissolving. I know it's like a family.

Tear it up bro!!

Paul my band has been together off and on for 25 years, so I wouldnt call it dissolving, in fact our bassist wife has gotten hired by an airline, and he says he can get a free ticket to come in and play some gigs from time to time.

So I will always be a member of Aint Yo Mama, LOL!

But on the other hand, Im looking at us only getting together, once or twice a year, and thats no way to keep my chops up.

I dont know if this audition will amount to anything, but you never know. If Im the singer then that means I get to pick all the material right! LOL!

Ive already got lead singer syndrome!

think of it as "crop rotation". that's my standard line i use when i list the different bands i'm involved with.

break a string (cheaper and less painful than breaking a leg). i hope those guys are up to your skill level.

edit: i hope they're up to your skill level AND good folks.

I only pick the songs I can sing! There's ~some~ rationality behind that phenomenon, and it's not all ego! :)

Move to California - I'll outsource you as much needed talent for my band :D

good hunting!

This is wierd actually just got off the phone with the keyboard player.

He said he and I played together a couple of times 15-20 yrs ago, I couldnt remember, he said I told him that the bass player was a flake, and he said I was right, the guy would just get to drunk to play. The fact that he has been active playing that long should mean they are pretty good.

I had been concerned about taking over fulltime lead singing, he said he could actually sing 40 songs if needed, but they needed a front man that plays lead, and also could sing some. Which really eases my mind, I dont mind singing a few, but was a little anxious about a whole night.

They have a good place to play, he even said he had a half stack for me to plug into, I said if you have a 4x12, I will just bring my amp head and pedal board, he said cool.

Im scheduled to try out next friday night, so we shall see how it goes. He said they already had some folks scheduled for this weekend.

I found them thru a CL ad, the only one I called. Who knows might be a cool deal. The music he quoted was a little bit more mellow than what Im used to, but I always thought we should lighten up what we were doing anyway. Plus he mentioned some songs that I have been playing and know backwards and forwards. But he said dont worry about prepping, he said I was great back then and we will just get together and wing it.

Good on you. You'll do fine.

I'm not much of a singer but damned if I didn't sing that last couple times I played with folks. (recently) It feels good - I hadn't realized that - always thought singers were well, just singers. If I'd known how much fun it is....

With your talent and experience - you'll own it.

best wishes on that

Talbot

This is sounding like a good next step in your musical journey John, lots of luck.

I'm taking a giant step backwards, in a way, to some guys I played in a band with 10 years ago, but I think it's a step forward too, since we've all improved and matured since then. Should be some new stuff recorded soon, we're getting together in the next week or so.

I'm trying to tone down my vocals, my voice hasn't been doing great the past couple of years, but I'm hoping that's lack of practice and will improve as we go.

Good luck with this, sounds like it's worth pursuing.
