Been thinkin..

We're all in this together, right?

I want to be a good boy, a rule-following, cog in the wheel, productive member of society. All any of us ask in return is the basic freedoms as humans, and our ability to pursue happiness. Why is it so hard? Why can't people find work and make enough to provide for their most basic needs?

I'd happily be a part of any system that seeks not to control me, or my being. I do my part, they do theirs. So long as I could live my life.

Then I realize.. that's communism, socialism, marxism, and a few other things. Why don't I like capitalism? Ahh, I think I found it- Every dollar goes somewhere. When one person has 5 more, that means another person has 5 less. It is a dog-eat-dog society. I don't think anyone even argues that anymore.

We wonder why as a society we are breaking down.. and it seems so simple- we're pitted against each other from day 1. We aren't encouraged to help when needed; we're encouraged to be content with what we have, even when it's not enough, usually by those who have too much or the ones who morally support them and the system. We are taught to take, be greedy, be selfish. Be moral in everything, except when it comes to money and property. Then you are not american if you apply morals to money.. you are a commie/marxist.

Our society is sick, demented. I feel that these mass shootings are nothing more than echos of that.

We're all part of this society. Can't we find a way to make it work together and stop the division?

No .....
The two party system .... has the country divided .... they want it that way ... they fight over the meager % of swing voters ...... the " us " against " them " rule .... winner take all.
Just look at comments on this board ...... there is hardly any compassion its mainly a bunch of self righteous posturing ...
Its the New America where you have disdain and condemnation for your neighbor
North vs South
Left vs Right
White Vs the " Black Messiah " (as some call him here)

Unfortunately, No we can't make it work together and stop the division!
The reason I say that is different folks have different agenda's.
There are ambitious folks that never have enough. Then again you have folks that are happy to keep things simple, these are usually conquered by the previously mentioned. Both groups are subject to changing their affiliations at any time due to life experiences. Bottom line is us humans beings are a complicated species all depending on cell structures inside our brains bodies and environments that shape us into who we are. We are part of a fluid universe or multiverse depending on your choice and evidence of which one or the other it is. Or could it be both at the same time! The beautiful thing is Keith, we can try, fail and continue to try over and over again. Who knows maybe someday we will succeed! Just that thought alone is enough to inspire us all!

a most thoughtful, thought provoking, and insightful post k-guy.

i agree, pretty much from day one we're taught and encouraged to "compete". i suspect that explains much of the "hey, i did it. i got MINE so it CAN be done...now screw everyone else" attitude that prevails too often.

well, that and just a general lack of compassion for those less fortunate.

one of our worst failings is greed and i believe if there is one thing that fugs it up for everyone...it just might be that.

i think it's amazing how it seems so many people need targets for their hatred, and petty aggravations and have the need to vent. sad.

it's no longer enough to say "i disagree w ......" no, it's "you hold an opinion different from MY point of view, so you're a dumbass, an idiot, a fool....."

You either answer your own question or you are just setting me up.

Kramer,"I'd happily be a part of any system that seeks not to control me, or my being. I do my part, they do theirs. So long as I could live my life.

You already a part of system that was set up to protect those liberties. You have already condemned that system and would enjoy greater freedoms under, say stallin.

Kramer"Then I realize.. that's communism, socialism, marxism, and a few other things. Why don't I like capitalism? Ahh, I think I found it- Every dollar goes somewhere. I will argue that, you are trying to open the thinking that a mass murderer is more capable of defining society for the individual such as POL POT. If you are talking about crony capitalism and special interest controlling government , than you are right. THEY ARE JUST AS GUILTY.

Kramer"Our society is sick, demented. I feel that these mass shootings are nothing more than echos of that.

YES WE CAN. BUT, it all starts with tremendous personal responsibility, and tolerance.

You stand out as a poster boy for all the lies that have led to the point where OUR government has taken far more away than they can ever return. That is why there is so much discord in our country.

I expect nothing except freedom and enough law to avoid anarchy, after that,, I expect total responsibility,,, and that includes corporations to respect the environment and to accept the responsibility to provide total support to any one that works for them.

As I have said before,,,,, You sound very bitter. I wish I could reach out and do something to help you,,, But you know what,,,? In some ways I have allowed MY OWN GOVERNMENT to cause me similar harm.

Never worry Kramer,

You shall experience what it is to live under a Marxist / Communist government soon enough. You won't miss out on the great transformation from this horrible enslaving capitalistic system to the perceived Utopian state.

We will go from one system where we work to be able to buy the things we want to own in the free market. Where we savor our leisure time an can spend it any our way we wish. If you are lucky we shall transform to a regime where you can work all day for the regime for just enough to buy food once in a while, or heat or cool your house. Naturally the cars have to go. The EPA will come up with some reg that simply puts a stop to them, you know, make up a big deal about it, like they did with guns, and eliminate them. Something like "Climate change is moving us rapidly towards extinction, and we simply can not afford to drive cars. But don't worry, Comrades, fearless leader has promised enough rickshaws to get the people around that have important jobs for the state". People shouldn't be permitted to run around all over the place. It will upset the balance of the cities. We need to know just where they are and what they are up to..

If I recall correctly, that is they way it has worked under every other little third world dictator. Get your head out of your ass and look around to see what some of these countries are truly like on the other side of what they present for tourists to see and tell their friends back home. They won't show you where they torture those that hate their depressive life. They won't show you what they do with their elderly and young. The people that run these regimes do not respect life or look at it as anything special. They prove that every minute of every day. They all gained power one small step at a time. They took away privileges and crushed their citizens one law at a time. They when the time was right they simply grabbed power. Not much room for bitching under those conditions. But maybe you see something in that I can't see.

To me that all smells like a bad case of BO.

Yeah. We could all request band duty. But you do know that when a musician sucks they just take him out and shoot him. :)

Society is irrelevant other than it is the battle ground I have been given to deal with.

I am in the world.

I am not of the world.

I don’t think it’s so much capitalism, which in itself to me doesn’t seem evil. But the endowment of rights upon corporations, which is the real culprit. An individual entity that has the lobbying power of immense wealth, will win over the will of the people every day of the week and twice on Sunday. This allows government to act as those it represents (the corporations, not yourself) and profit the new scale by which all morality is replaced. The central bank sells us our money at interests which we in turn buy to spend. The more we spend the more they make. Obama wants the debt ceiling increased. Go figure. Of course any campaign that runs in the (b)illions of dollars, would mean big money favors in return.

When the government is no longer bound by the ethics of its people (no matter how week that may be), the immediate result is it’s no longer bound to abide by them either. Henry Ford paid his workers very well for the time, the logic being that each could afford to buy the product that they were making. If the government could empower individuals to the extent and effort that has been spent empowering the corporations, we would be in great shape. Much to what you were saying, if at least part of the wealth was reinvested to support the common market. The corporations are stripping the people of this country for every last dime in profit, without growing anything in return.

We are at a fork in the road. Continuing the status quo takes us to tyranny, economic instability and world conquest. The callous disregard to everything but profit, means if there is more profit in simply taking a resource, then that’s what we will do. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem is a nail. And that is exactly what this government is, a one “tool” toolbox. In contrast if we were really serious about all the very deep bullshit that Obama pedals, the indications would be massively different.

For instance education would have to be our absolute priority going into the future. http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2012/01/12/16overview.h31.html
Yet now higher education costs more and pays back less then it ever has before. The fact that this country forces it’s citizens to pay for higher education is criminal. It’s obvious that you can’t be a world technology leader without engineers and scientists which we are at a critical shortage of now. Like green energy for instance, we could outsource it to India, but that helps us how? To think that we could somehow be the world leader in green energy technology, with the current educational system we have today, is absolute folly. We are currently 17th in education in the word index. From 1995 to 2005 China increased the number of doctorate holders by five times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China#Secondary_education

“The contribution to China's economic construction and social development made by research in the higher education sector is becoming ever more evident. By strengthening cooperation among their production, teaching and research, schools of higher learning are speeding up the process in turning sci-tech research results into products, giving rise to many new and hi-tech enterprises and important innovations. Forty-three national university sci-tech parks have been started or approved, some of which have become important bases for commercializing research.”

They are seeing direct commercial success by reinvesting into their educational system. In turn our corporations are just interested in how much money we can take from those people going to school. Even if their eventual future depends those very people. When that bill becomes ultimately to big a burden, who will it hurt? Having the world’s mightiest military and at the same time no commitment to any sort of peaceful dominance, can only lead to one end. Especially if there has always been a profit in doing just that. Don’t worry if the kid can cure cancer, just make sure he’s well trained in field stripping a weapon. This is our future, the government we deserve. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverted_totalitarianism
