This is a rehearsal "concept" recording of a new song we will be developing over the next several weeks.

Good job George. I think the breaks need to be a lot tighter. The keyboard tone is a little cheesy. On the verses where you just have the bass playing it needs something (palm-muted guitar?). Good start.

Thanks Jimmy . . . exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

And yeah we were really struggling on being on the same page as far as concept & timing.
You are not the only one whom feels the key tone sucks . . . LOL
Hopefully when we get the Roland put into operation ( Jax got one for Christmas ) we can cure that ill.

Any other thoughts as what might "fill" in the verse would be appreciated as well.

The singer can sing, and he puts it out there. I think if he put less swing up or down and does vocal chord quick changes he could be more acceptable. Swing gives cover that can't. He can. Just needs to do so. I felt nothing cheesy about the keyboard. I felt the expression, (and Fill). If it's cheesy, it might be because it is the only thing introduced with reverb.

For a new mix not too bad. Needs harmony in the chorus.

I can hear a stadium full of people cheering that performance as printed, if it were live.

It's rather less than a new mix really. Not more than a recorded brain storm session.

Harmony . . . yes . . . we really don't have anyone capable of harmony in a live setting as of yet. Still searching.

I'm glad someone likes the keys tone . . . it just runs all up n down my spine
I do like the fill it adds, especially since I am the only one on guitar in this one.

Keep it coming ! We will review Wednesday after our recording session of our CD material.

George, I agree with the others about tightening up the breaks/adding harmonies.

The lead vocal seems a little strained... Lot of concept to pack into the verses, ( It definitely will need a lot of oxygen to pull it off. )

Overall, the song has a great dynamic feel to it and definitely worthy of performing to an audience.

wow...no one else noticed that the guitar is WAY too loud in that mix? Must be a bunch of guitar players listening.

Distorted guitars take up a lot of space in a mix. You would be surprised how low you can set it and still hear the part well.

Start with a good mix on the drums, then add the bass, then turn up the guitars to where you barely start to hear them. Keys even less than that. Spread all the tracks out to their own individual space in the sonic spectrum (panning degrees L & R)

Make yourself a mix and live with it for a day or two. I think you'll find that the natural dynamics will appear to bring it up and down in the mix where it's needed and keep it out of the way where it isn't.

Once the keyboard is mixed down to the right level that patch won't seem so cheesy.

Mix ?

No really I appreciate your input (and you obviously correct ) but it's no "mix" as such. Recorded right off the board, all I did was convert it to put on the player.

My guitar is almost always too loud in recordings coming right off the board.
Even if it sounds righteous in the head phones, when we play back we always have to pull my slider down.
Not being engineer inclined I could not comment on why that is.
I like dabbling in the composition. I leave the mixing to others.

Intro bass line is cool with the keys... except when the flute-like notes come in.
I like the use of the keyboards in the break around 2min 15 sec. but again not the flutey single notes.
I would like to hear it with a second guitar even if it's sparse so the keyboards can still be played by one of the two of you guys.
Needs some tightening up but it's a good foundation with some good elements including your guitar tone and the groove of the bass line.

GIBSON / MARSHALL is hard to beat.

One of the drawbacks of our current arrangement is that I often am carrying the whole rhythm and it leaves little room for me to rehearse / play effective "lead" guitar. I am wood-shedding the ability to shift from one mode to the next and back, but honestly it's above my pay grade at this point in my experience.
Jordan does a good job with the vocals, But it is obviously more difficult to do vocals & guitar or vocals and keys. Especially with limited experience doing keys at all.
When we play live I'm pretty near capacity what with guitar and operating the lights & fog with my feet.
We really could use a 5th member, preferably some one whom plays keys with some experience as well as do some harmony vox.
Until then, we'll just have to do the best we can with the four of us.
