I think too many would be classified as mentally ill to leave anybody to run anything.

I know a guy who was "Disabled" because he got into fights with other people. SERIOUSLY. So whac dr got him on disability when he was in his early 20's. He gets more free money each month than some of those that supported him (taxpayers) will get when they retire. He gets a good monthly check, heating assistance, food stamps, and rent subsidies for being a bully. Just for beating up people. Go figure. This whole society is whacked out.

He still likes to hassle people and does, only he gets a big salary with perks for doing it.

Well, other than the musicians.

I dunno what miracle his lawyer pulled off.
But, it ain't easy getting disability.
It's very hard, no matter what problem you've got.
We nearly went homeless again while I was trying to get mine.
My girlfriend also went through a lot to get hers.
We both stressed out and were sent to a nuthouse.

We don't get heating assistance, food stamps, or rent subsidies.
Our checks aren't that great.
It's a fraction of what we made at our jobs.

I think we need to find a good advocate and reapply for those.

Mike N - sorry for your problems, but it really depends on the state you live in - some are much more relaxed in their requirements, but things are not as easy now as they used to be - anywhere.

It isn't cheap to have your own business...a lot of overhead and that's just the reservoir tip. lol

What stops you from working a job (or maybe even starting up a small bizness)?

I have a progressively worsening circulation problem in my limbs, mainly in the feet & legs.
But, it effects my hands & arms too if I carry anything heavy.
I cannot stand, or sit, for extended periods of time.
Usually, about every hour or so, I have to elevate my legs to my heart level.
This is combined with severe clinical depression, bi-polar possibly, and mild OCD.
So, it's not really just ONE thing.
It's the combination that gets me.

I could end up as an invalid or die, if I don't slow the progress of the circulation problem.
I have to keep my blood pressure down because it aggravates it.

But, I want to get back into playing music full-time...if that is possible.
At least I can control my working environment more if I am able to.

Mike, I'm sorry you have to suffer through that. Circulation problems are usually accompanied by heart conditions.

I had a mildly similar problem. (Was bordering on edema, COPD...all smoking related) In the beginning I couldn't walk to my mail box without running out of breath (or looking like Boris Karloff at the park) . ... Long story short, to stave off my condition, I began a series of short walks everyday , which I eventually increased to longer walks. I had to quit smoking altogether, drop the salt in my diet, and eat crap-loads of veggies . I can say that all that helped my condition very much....
Could this be similar to your situation?

No.
The vascular surgeon who diagnosed me with Chronic Venous Edema narrowed down all the possibilities.
It is congenital.
Basically, the valves in my veins & arteries aren't working right and often push blood in the wrong direction.
Yes, it is heart-related.
I was told that I will probably die from a heart attack, if I don't lose my legs first.
Diet and exercise would help me lose some weight.
If I could get any exercise.
But, it wouldn't affect the circulation problem, in my case.

I use to like taking long walks for hours.
But, I cannot do that anymore.
Wearing compression hose allows me to be on my feet a little longer.
But, at over $100/pair, I cannot afford to stay supplied with fresh ones.
They wear out pretty fast.

We try to eat fairly healthy, when we can afford to.
But, you eat what you can get cheaply.

My girlfriend has diabetes now.
She can't really afford to go on a diabetic diet.
We use sugar substitutes and try to cut out anything that's bad for us.
There's only so much you can do, though.
