Bummer

The other night we had a torrential rain all night long.

Apparently the place where we rehearse flooded out (bass players basement), with about 2" water. My midi pedal, EQ pedal, amp cab, and my KRAMER (upright in case on floor) are all potentially severely damaged :(

I'm assuming the EQ pedal ($100) and the midi pedals ($300) are a total loss :( the guitar might warp from the excessive moisture.. the bass player took everyone out, apart, and has heat/fans on it since; I'm pretty sure the butt of the kramer sat in the case in water for 8-10 hours. We are meeting there tomorrow to assess the damages.

bummer..

Note to self: never leave gear in a basement.

That blows. We have a sump pump but if we lose power and it rains...I need to get a generator.

Sorry to hear that Kramer! I hope after letting your gear dry for a LONG time the loss turns out to be minimal. Here in H-town the land is very flat and it rains a lot. So much so no one has basements. I have lived here all my life and I have never seen a basement. It floods here into the houses and friends have had their gear damaged. They opened everything up as much as they could put fans on the flooded items and let it dry for a couple of weeks and most of the stuff was fine.

Some of the best rehearsal spaces I've had were up on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
We had a room, a couple months ago, over a guy's garage that was very spacious.
I loved that place!

I have always had flood insurance. It is really a no brainer. If you live in the 100 year flood plain it usually cost under $300.00 a year. Back when I was in the remodeling biz. one customer had flood ins. for 30 years and it never flooded so he let the policy expire. 8 months later we had the biggest flood event in history. Tropical storm Allison dumped 30 inches of rain he had 6 inches of water in his house.

Sorry to hear about the equipment loss. At our practice space (a garage about 100 feet from a lake), my amp is on a stand, and I don't leave any guitars there. I could lose my pedal board, but other than a vintage Morley vol/wah, its not worth that much.
My basement COULD flood (and has). I have a sump pump - and backups - and a generator, and I pay flood insurance (big deductible) and everything in the basement is off the floor on skids or bricks or shelves.

I used to deal with electronics that had been subjected to dirty water. I took them to the sink and washed them with clean water. Then I shook them to get the bulk of the water our, and blotted the PC Boards with a paper towel. Then I would put them in the oven and let the pilot light dry them out since it is low hear.

I have done that for amps that were unfortunate enough to have Margaritas spilled in them. Uggg Sticky salty mess. And everything was just fine after a bath. Just don't turn anything on until they are completely dry. Water does not damage most electronic components since all are sealed to be water tight.

I often take old really dirty electronics gear and give it a bath before I work on it just to clean it really good. So the pedals may only need cleaning and then you have to clean the controls with tuner cleaner. After that, everything should worl like new.

off

When I give my radio a bath, I leave it plugged in and blast all the dirt off of it.
