Tee-Hee..

I love Carlin but he's such a cynic and we still have no idea why...

Regardless of what he's done, you still have to question why he says what he does..

What happened in his life that gave him this outlook on life and working with others?

Scotty- I always wondered that too- He had success, he was wealthy, yet somehow he never lost that teen angst or whatever it is that some of us carry around.

I always liked carlin, I'm cynical as well- and among all of my friends and family, I'm the unlucky one who also was never able to let go of the angst.. right/wrong still seem black and white, I hate corruption, hypocrisy, and injustice.

Among all t hose my age, very few seem to feel the same way. Sure, everyone hates it, but nearly all have resigned to accepting it.. and I wonder- Is that apathy the very reason the crooks have been allowed to squander power and wealth, take over the government? Is it that we all should hang on to our virtues a little longer and harder in life and fight against corruption in the way our elders once did?

In the end, I think the apathy in this country is it's biggest problem. Things won't change because nobody cares deeply enough to do what is necessary to change it. Apathy is why we got 4 more years of Obama, and not 4 years of Rocky Anderson or Jill Stein. Apathy is why we accept the government running like an olympian with two broken legs, and apathy is why we allow the SEC to take a nap while the wall street casino hedges bets using our assets, retirements, and taxes.

I think Carlin saw all of that, I think he knew deep down that even with his microphone, he was unable to even make a dent in the ills of society, but I applaud him for never giving up. I also noticed that over the years, his stand-up routine got increasingly less funny, and more angry. I get that too.. for all his efforts, things only got worse. It's hard to work for something only to watch it disintegrate slowly before your eyes.

Carlin was a populist, a patriot, and stood for a level of human consciousness that people today can't even imagine. RIP

I like the man but he was a bit too cynical.

I have no idea what fueled him but I can guess.

"Sometimes when you feel too much one can be moved to action that is inappropriate".

This is exactly why I like "apathy".
Apathetic behavior is a catch to reduce one's own ability to go super nova and start shooting up the place.

And if that stops people from "capping the tourists", then be apathetic by all means.

If you have a good outlet for the things in society that bug you, USE IT.
"Apathy" is my drink of choice.

Some are lucky enough to be able to write about what bothers them and I think it becomes a therapy type environment subsequently.

I've never been able to do that though.

Carlin reminds me of the consulting firm I work with. We are all refugees from the corp zombie world. We have a flat structure, we are all quite good at what we do and are well respected.

but nobody wants us dating their sister....

We do not have employee reviews, we don't care at all about 'career development' and 'advancement opportunites.' We are a big pain in the ass but our clients all love us because we actually deliver.

I'm very grateful to be working with this mob and it took me a long time to find such a bunch.

What is starting to worry me though - is I find myself agreeing more and more with Mike Nobody. Can I be losing my grip? :D

I like George Carlin as well. Very funny man.
But he was just a guy playing word games and getting rich.

If he had genius, it was that . . . and only that.

Everything Carlin did came right out of Lenny Bruce , Including delivery techniques. Carlin did an entire career on examining words of the English language. He was funny, but his act was self absorbed. He was not the voice of a generation, but rather the voice of his own hippie generation. (He didnt give a fuk about anything coming out after the 70's). His logic was sharp, consise and necessarily petty (how else can a comic entertain). I dunno what happend in his life. by all accounts, he had a normal childhood, and landed sqaure in the 60's. He did time in the airforce...But I think he got kicked out...

Wow GT,

So that's what a guy driven by hate looks like. A tragic view of the world I think.

That is so funny,,, Yet you are the first person to attack all the freedoms that George Carlin was able to use, under THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA.

YOU ARE THE HYPOCRITE!

You are the one that called it outdated in a previous post. You are the one that called for the destruction of that frustrating document.

YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE! Self proven!
