I suppose el dictator will try to ban our rights to own through dictatorial edict. OK gun haters answer this. What most likely would have happened had the teachers been trained in gun handling, and had carry permits?
Do you suppose they would join in with the madman and begin killing the children along with him?
Or do you think they would have offed the bastard and stopped him from taking so many lives?
Get ready to lose more of our constitutional rights.

This isn't Israel, except for exceptions here in the South most public school teachers are a bunch of Marxist morons. No brains no guts.
But still...at least they'd have had a chance.

So you think its safe to have a bunch of loaded weapons in a grade school, where there is always the possibility of a kid grabbing one accidentally (or not accidentally)? Or one slips out of a holster or purse, hits the floor and goes off because the person forget to put on the safety? Or a kid picks up the 'misplaced' gun and proceeds to shoot all his classmates at recess because 'it's just a game', like on tv ...
Or is better to make it hard/impossible for a mentally unstable person to get his hands on a weapon? (I didn't say ban guns.)

Obama signed into law the right to carry in the National Parks and on AMTRAK.
He aint taking squat away. He is a bad liberal.
Its a shame so many die and are used by both sides as political footballs.

Mike, listening to Alex Jones speak of 3rd generation east coast families that have not had a gun in the family for 3 generations, and you must be one of those families, since you are unaware most likely of gun safes (LOCKED) and gun trigger locks too..

well i responded in the other thread, seems really stupid to argue in multiple threads, so the other one I'm sticking in, outside of this post, of course.

Sorry. I guess you are correct in your assumption that a bunch of kids would mob a teacher and take his gun. Although I imagine that there would be strict rules, such as wearing a holster that has a good latch and having it concealed, after all, isn't that what concealed means..out of sight? And if it is out of sight, how would a student even know? But then again, I guess that having some armed guy break into a school and kill a bunch of kids knowing no one is armed would be a much more sensible approach. By the way, do you know that statistics show that places where warnings that guns are not allowed have more gun violence because people that want to kill people are basically cowards at heart? This school was a posted gun free zone. Should police officers be unarmed when going into a school? After all, what if their gun fell our of its holster? Or any of your above reasonings?
So why not both? Sometimes the mentally ill show no signs until they snap. And your answer to that would be? I know what the answers were in the past. All manner of statements such as. He was a wonderful neighbor and a quiet man, who would have figured? I guess I couldn't even count all the times I heard people that knew someone who snapped reply in like manner.
The bottom line is that you can take ALL the guns, make them impossible to legally purchase, and the bad guys will still get them. Get rid of all the guns on the planet and guys with lathes will make them in their basements. Some kids make zip guns in school. They willkill you as easily as any manufactured gun.

I am as sick of hearing the pro-gun as I am of the anti-gun arguments.
Please, STFU already.
Everybody.
Where is the thread promoting better access to mental health services?
Where's THAT argument?
Where is the argument about identifying persons displaying psychological problems BEFORE they go apesh!t in a school full of kids?
Huh?

I reiterate, I am a left leaning centrist, and not a LIBERAL, but the Founding Fathers of this country knew how important it was to have the general populace able to own guns and be ready at "a moment's notice" and I dammed sure believe those forefathers were much more on the ball morally and spiritually than common folks today running government bought off by the lobbyists..

It wasn't addressed specifically to you so you didn't see that?
Or do you believe that every person who has a mental problem naturally runs around like a nut case? hell, half the people on here have some type of mental problems. WE"RE MUSICIANS People think we're all nuts for that reason alone. And sometimes we make it pretty clear that they're right.
Seen some of the hostile outbursts on here? Normal people would be calling the cops reporting the violence in some of these threads. So what if one of the guys here did carry out a threat? Would you be responsible for not reporting him as being dangerously nuts? Knowing that and not suggesting he go check himself in to the know it all authorities who would just probably send him away if you did just that? So problem solved?
Why not specifics instead of platitudes that imply we'll all know a crazy person when we meet one. Some actions never come out in crazy people. Some can be off the chart geniuses outwardly, or loving people outwardly. Maybe you know how we can find these people when their own parents sometimes can't.

Slacker, I believe that it CAN be addressed and discovered if the effort goes in to the root of the problem (behavior).
I acknowledge that "spotting crazy" has been routinely missed, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible to figure it out.
The only solution in my mind right now is to address the root of the problem - mental health and our current culture.
